General Travel Tip #1585 - Bring a Sling for Young Kids

At level 3, you can mark this tip as a favorite!
We had a rented jogging stroller and my developmentally delayed two-year-old daughter kept moving the shade to shield her face. This resulted in not having shade for the top of her head and the back of her neck-though we had placed plenty of sunscreen on her. I had packed an open-tail ring sling with no rails thinking I might need it to secure her to me on the buses if she started fighting having to remain seated. I was able to take and secure the sling through the handle of the stroller bringing the rings tight to the handle. I than let the material of the sling hang down over the front and sides of the stroller hood. It completely covered my daughter during her naps protecting a very fair skinned baby from getting son burn yet was so light weight and breathable that she didn't get hot under it. The first night that we went to Illuminations it got a bit on the chilly side even for us being from Montana the rest of used our rain ponchos to help keep body heat in but my daughter wanted nothing to do with that. Once again the sling came to the rescue -- we just tucked it in around her making sure that the rings were on the foot board between her feet. A sling is on my must pack list from here on out when I travel especially with young children. It is so useful to have in many situations, doesn't take much room to pack and if it gets wet dries easily in just a few hours in the open air.
