You'd be able to see more attractions and probably enjoy the beach more if you did morning at DL and beach in the afternoon. On the other hand, you could start out at the beach and end up at DL and enjoy the fireworks (plan to see them at least twice!) and Fantasmic! (Fantasmic! generally only plays on weekends unless it's holiday time.) Either plan would be workable, just depends on what you want to do! Whenever we're faced with a decision like this, usually we wind up at DL all day because it's our favorite! But I understand you wanting to experience other SoCal stuff, coming from such a distance.
