| You\'re going to build WHAT . . . ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! OK guys . . . we're in panic mode today!!!!!!!
We found out this morning that the owners of our apartment complex decided (who knows how long ago, because we are not privy to any info about the complex unless it DIRECTLY affects our individual apartment ) to SELL the complex.
OK, I should rephrase . . . we found out that they ALREADY SOLD IT. They close on the deal on April 28. So, what are they selling for, you may ask? They are turning the complex into condos!!!!
Here's my issues with this:
1. I don't know anyone in their right mind who would want to buy a condo in this part of town.
2. We live 13 miles from the beach . . . so unless they would be retirement type apartments/condos . . .
3. Current leases will be terminated.
4. Depending on when the official transition happens, we may be homeless until we transfer orders!
5. The company that bought the place owns another place in town last year. They have sold only 6 of 200 units. SIX!!!!!!! And they have been selling their 1 bedroom units for $98,000!!! (nowhere NEAR the beach either!)
6. The current owners and management don't think it is a big enough deal to keep the current residents in the loop and let them know that they'll have to be thinking about moving soon.
7. Over half of the more recently occupied apartments are evacuees from Hurricane Katrina who relocated here.
8. After having lived here 2 1/2 years, I would NEVER buy into this place!!! They are going to put in crown molding, completely replace the kitchen cabinets and re-do the bathrooms, but I don't think even THAT will help!!!
The assistant manager talked to us today (but told us no one else is to know anything yet ) and said that evidently, all of the residents will be getting notification sometime next month about the sale, what to do next and a general idea of when everyone will be moving out. She said she is pretty sure that we will get a 150-180 days' notice . . . which, if we get it mid-month next month will be fine for us, since we are currently just under 180 days until we move anyways. BUT, any less than that and we are in TROUBLE!!!!
For one thing, the Navy will NOT pay for a move unless we are under orders to move into base housing (which we can't get into here with under 6 months till we transfer) or unless we are under transfer orders (which we won't be until October). So we'd have to move ourselves, at our own cost.
The other thing is that we wouldn't have anywhere to go!!! No one is going to be able to give us a lease for less than 7 months around here . . . we do have a friend with one empty bedroom who has said we could stay there anytime we need to. But, still, we would have to pack up our stuff and pay for storage until we move . . . then the Navy would have to unpack what we packed, and REPACK it in order to move us in October.
So, after all the crud that we have gone through living here so far . . . this is just the icing on the cake. In other news:
Mike put in for 5 sets of orders today!
1. Whidbey Island, Washington
2. Norfolk, Virginia (but the place he'd go would have to retrain him in California, probably)
3. Point Mugu, California (I actually have my fingers crossed again for this one, which could be bad. I never get what I want! )
4. and 5. = 2 other sets to Norfolk, VA
We'll find out where we're headed FOR SURE between May 2-5!!!!
Chances are, we will be sent to Norfolk, Virginia . . . so if you have any info on that area, send it my way. I am starting to research it, just in case! |
