| I have a son who's almost that exact same age. We go to Disney a LOT since we're only an hour away, and he spends a fair amount of time off on his own (he has a cell phone and if he doesn't answer, he's stuck back with me for a while). Anyway, here's his favorite places to hang in each park. Folks have already told you about some off-park places like Disney Quest, and Boardwalk.
EPCOT: Innoventions (particularly the one with the house of the future)
Mission Space exit area (they have interactive games and computer activities)
Store in Japan
My son loves to sit and talk to the woodcarver in the African Outpost.
Club Cool (where you get the samples of Coke)
MGM:
Animation Studios (he's friends with a couple of the animators, and he "helps" by putting out the paper and pencils, and counting the number of people coming in).
This park is more of an active park for him, because there are a lot of rides/shows for teenagers. Lights Motors Actions should definitely hold your DS's attention, and there are two big thrill rides here too. Just avoid the Playhouse Disney and Little Mermaid area, and you should be good.
AK:
My son likes to watch the surgery out at Rafiki's Planet Watch.
He likes the bird show too.
This isn't a "hang-out" park for him. He rides what he wants, then goes back to the room.
MK:
Since VMK has closed down, my DS tends to hang around the Space Mountain arcade. That's the biggest one in MK.
He also sometimes watches over by the shooting gallery in Fronteir Land.
Hope you enjoy your stay!
