I stayed in PP in 2003 and I have no complaints. My kids were and are older, so the walk was never an issue. Actually, if you cut through GC, it is a much shorter walk, than walking down to the end of DTD, almost to DH and then over.

Instead, from DTD take the walkway into the GC lobby, (always a special treat) then walk out the front door. Paradise Pier will be right across the street.

I agree with staying in a park view room. That is where we stayed and it was totally awsome! The special entrance to California Adventure (if it is still there) is right across the street from the hotel.
