We haven't used Priceline for CA (we have our favorite and don't want to leave it to chance), but we used it for getting a room in Orlando the night before our cruise. It took a couple tries (our bids were too low the first time or two), but we got a great rate on a highly rated hotel.

The only downside would be that you don't have a say in which hotel it is (for example, we wanted the hotel inside Orlando Airport, but got one that was 5 minutes away instead) - but you have pretty good parameters to set to ensure you'll be satisfied with whatever you get.
