| Heatwise, they are both hot! Hot and humid (at least for this desert rat!), though the humidity can't compare to FL. But, there's always a chance in CA for the nights to be chilly.
In terms of deciding when to go, you're talking about very little difference in average temperatures (according to weather.com, the avgs are 84 for July and 86 for Aug).
