*** UPDATE
Well thanks for the well wishes. However, the pixies are broken just like my foot and we are off to the OR.
You know it's bad when the doctor says, "Forty years in podiatry and I have never seen anything like this"
Lovely.
It turns out I have a pretty serious break going on where the bones have separated completely and a large chunk of the bone "floated" away. Then the body tried to heal itself and attached a bunch of fibrous tissue and made a bridge. Problem#2 is since the break is so bad, it inflamed a tendon which weakened the tendon and now a tendon is starting to pull away from the bone and detach itself. The third problem is, I have an extra bone. Just for laughs. Well, the extra bone has minded its business for 30 years, but since the broken bone floated away, the fibrous tissue involved this extra guy too. The bump is the floater.
The poor doctor didn't know what to do and said there were absolutely no other options than surgery as this won't heal without correction. He has never done anything like this and is getting a colleague of his who does "exotic" surgery to consult and figure out how to fix this.
He thought he knew exactly what was going on until he saw the X-rays and because he wasn't sure what he was looking at, he had more x-rays taken. Then he did an ultrasound and could see the torn tendon right there. He wasn't surprised the other doctor didn't catch it because the symptoms are very close to another uncommon condition.
Anyway, they want me in surgery as soon as they can because of the amount of inflammation and they don't want arthritis to set in.
It seems I have good reason to say ouch. This kinda sucks because last year, I had surgery 3 days after I got back from Disney. I don't know if I am going to do this now or wait till I get back. We'll see what the recovery time will be before I make my decision.
I think I am cursed.
