The insurance is optional. If you really want it, see if you can purchase it at a better price elsewhere.

I also don't like it when optional items are automatically added. To me, the best revenge is to have them remove the option, and to spend that money with someone else (another insurance company, etc.). Unfortunately, automatically adding (optional) travel insurance is a widespread practice. There's little point to getting too upset about it. Like too many things in life, you just have to be aware of it, and know how to look after your own interests.
