We've left the parks/DTD many times that late and crossed the street to one of the Harbor Blvd. Hotels. There are still plenty of people about usually, and most of them tourists like you!
We've never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. If you take normal safety precautions you should be just fine. Have fun!
