Abdominal Pains ???

Last Tuesday night DS came out to DH and I complaining of pain in his lower right abdomen. First thing I thought of and asked DH.....which side is the appendix on?????????? Called pediatrician (since it was 9:30 at night - got help line) and talked to nurse. She said with lower right abdomen - better go to the ER - could be the appendix. SOOOOO, as I try to remain calm (at least on the surface), off DS and I head to the ER. We get there and sit in a room full of people hacking and coughing (oh joy, just got over being sick!!), however a possible appendix problem apparently trumps coughs, migraines and dog bites. Since the ER was soooo busy, they only had one room to put DS in, the pediatric room......now keep in mind DS is 12 and the ped room has a bed shaped like a polar bear with big blue eyes that is smiling at you!!! Well after DR came in and checked him out, she ordered low dose of morphine for the pain and a CAT scan to find out what was wrong. The morphine made DS totally silly!! He was totally out of it, but still awake. It was everything I could do to keep from laughing at him. The CAT scan revealed exactly.......NOTHING. No problems with appendix, gall bladder, intestine etc. Blood tests were totally normal too. So we went home with a diagnosis of..."Abdominal pains, uncertain causes." Yeah, that helps!!!!

Wednesday comes and goes, he's fine. Thursday morning at 4am, he's waking me up, hurting again, only this time on the LEFT side. WHAT IS THAT??????????? I had already made an appointment with his reg doc so we head off to that Thursday am. After a VERY long wait at the DR office, we finally see him he checks him out, reviews the CAT scan and tells me this...."I know it 's not very scientific, but I see this every summer. Some kids get cramps." Okay - if I had a daughter who was 12, I would expect this......but I have a SON!!!! What's causing this????? Doc doesn't know, but he said to use Advil or Tylenol and a warm compress and let him know if it gets really bad.

DS continues to have cramps, but a hot bath and a compress seem to do the trick. Anyone out there have this issue with their child?????? I'm at a bit of a loss and I HATE seeing my kiddo hurting!!!!!!
