Sunday, September 1

What is it about waking up to a phone call from Mickey Mouse? It is such a great feeling! Especially for someone like me who loooves that Mouse!! Mickey woke Ken and I up at 7am on Sunday and Joanne and Edgar were already awake (they are extremely early risers) we showered (I had bought special body foo stuff from Bath and Body Works just for this trip) and dressed and were out the door at 7:45 and in plenty of time to make it for our 8:30 PS at Hollywood & Vine at MGM. We had great ‘bus luck’ on this trip and were in line at MGM in the special ‘PS line’ at 8:15 (MGM didn’t open until 9 that morning).

Hollywood & Vine was a great experience! We went in and were seated immediately. Our CM Mike asked us if we’d been here before and when we told him no, he explained the buffet to us and told us to go right up and help ourselves! They had delicious food too! Chocolate french toast (which was nothing like I expected, I thought it would be chocolate bread somehow and it’s not, it’s regular french toast with chocolate sauce drizzled over it), bacon, sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy, veggie fritata (yum!) fruit, cereals, all kinds of pasteries and the best thing of all was at the kids buffet (which, I admit, I raided the kids buffet): Mickey Waffles and strawberries!! YUM YUM!!!

The characters were terrific too! They all came over to us, took the greatest pictures with us and hammed it up good! I loved the 40’s decor and Minnie’s dress and Goofy’s Zoot Suit were the coolest! When Ken made the PS’s for the trip he told them it was both couple’s anniversary trip so Mike gave us cards with balloons attached! Joann and I later gave our balloons to little girls that were sitting near us.

The funniest thing I saw didn’t happen to any of us, but to a man sitting near us. His female companion had gone up to the buffet and he was sitting there eating and Goofy was leaning over his shoulder and watching him for a good 2-3 minutes!! Finally this guy looks over his shoulder and jumped a mile when he saw Goofy there! We all had a good laugh at that! Goofy played with his hair for a few seconds and then scampered away! When his friend came back he was telling her about it, so, I went over to them and told him how Goofy was standing there watching him for a bit. He didn’t know that had happened and I shared a laugh with them!

After breakfast we went and checked out Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey, MuppetVision 3D. Joann and Edgar decided to have a blue screen picture done (where they can put you in front of different backdrops). While they did that, Ken and I walked around opening the different crates and listening to the various sounds. Then we had a picture taken in one of those photos and we kept trying to push each other out of the picture! I swear, I almost wet my pants!! After that, we walked around the New York Street area taking pictures in the different vehicles parked along the streets and at the Singing In the Rain umbrella and near a couple of the different buildings.

We strolled down Mickey Avenue and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire – Play It was just beginning so we went on in. On this day “Regis” was a very funny woman who I think could have a serious career in television but, alas, I do not remember her name!

The first contestant up was a woman from New York and she got the 32,000 point question wrong, so it was time to see who was next. I was in seat 120. They showed the Top 10 highest scoring audience members were shown and seat 120 was NUMBER 2!!!! At first, for a split second, I thought I was in first place, because they pause before they show the highest score and I almost died!! But it was not meant to be on this trip, the highest I got was second place! But, hey, that’s pretty impressive (well, to me it is, because it was me) for someone who has only played twice! Actually, I would have been mortified if I had been the high scorer, but I wouldn’t have refused the hot seat!

After Millionaire we went in to see ‘Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream’. This was the best! So many different things and pictures and actual memorabilia to look at! Wonderful!! My favorite was Walt’s office! It looked like he had just stepped out to grab a coffee or something! I did notice with dismay that there were 4 or 5 ashtrays scattered about. Someone had to have taken a picture of his office in the 60’s to re-create it so meticulously!! I mean, even his satchel-like brief case was under the table, like it had just been set down. I have to admit, I must have stared at that office for a good 10 minutes trying to absorb every detail.

After we left the exhibit, we decided to go back to the hotel and rest before heading out to Magic Kingdom. We got a bus back to the hotel and after browsing through Maestro Mickey’s, headed back to our room.

Coming next: Magic Kingdom and Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern
