Re: The Grand Californian

We stayed there on the opening weekend, and it was fantastic. In addition to the impressive craftsman-style architecture, there are details throughout the resort that make just hanging around in the lobby an adventure. The light fixtures and the 1930s house phones that you have to dial were my favorites. The proximity to Disneyland and DCA is much closer than the Disneyland Hotel. It is literally less than a five-minute walk to the entrance of DCA and Disneyland. We had a balcony that looked right out on the Grizzly River Rapids ride. In the evening, we could sit on our balcony and hear the "mood noise," crickets, bird calls, frogs (things that don't exist in downtown Anaheim...only at the Disney Resort!!) And finally, the restaurants were pretty good. Be sure to ask your server to tell you one of the stories at the Storyteller Cafe. Each of the large paintings depict a different story from California history. When I can afford it, I'll be staying there again!
