Re: Fortunate Family of 4 Finds Fun At Fort For 5th Time: Day 1 & 2

Day Three: (Part 2)

It was a nice sunny warm day perfect for the pool and sunbathing. The Meadows Pool was packed. We figured Sunday would be a big pool day since it is usually a big check out day for FtW. DW and I took the dog for a nice long walk along the canal. He hadn’t done all his “business” since we left home so we knew he needed some exercise.

Since it was nice, warm afternoon, DW and I headed to the Trading Post and got something we rarely buy: a six pack of beer. Lots of other folks had the same idea as we noted while waiting in line. We went back to the site and sat in the shade under our awning and enjoyed a nice cold beer. Nothing like a beer and a cigar to relax with on a lazy afternoon.

The boys came back after a couple of hours and grabbed dry clothes and headed to take showers. Once we got everything hung up to dry, it was time to discuss dinner plans. We decided on Cracker Barrel which is always a favorite and reasonably priced eatery.

After dinner we headed back to MK. The goal was to get the guys on Space Mountain so that was our first stop. Tomorrowland was still crowded. Stitch had no more FPs. Space Mountain was also out and still 60 minutes in standby. We left it up to the guys. If they wanted to wait in line, DW and I would go do something on our own and meet back up with them in an hour. After they talked it over they decided not to waste their time and opted to try for a third trip through Splash. Can you tell they like that ride? As we get over to Adventureland it is beginning to get dark. Splash has about a 10 minute wait. The guys are looking forward to the experience at night. DW and I don’t want to get wet since it was already getting chilly, so we hung out to wait. The wait seemed much longer. We could hear the ride was having problems. That familiar CM’s voice on the loudspeaker telling riders to remain seated that the ride would resume soon seemed to be heard a dozen times while we were waiting. One good thing they did was to turn off the water spray on the bridge. The guys say it’s a cool experience at night but just not the best thing on a chilly evening. Their wet shirts made them uncomfortable for the evening. As we headed away from Splash through Frontierland toward Liberty Square, the CMs were busy roping off viewing areas for Spectromagic. I thought it was a bit early until I heard one of them talking about high school marching bands going through first. COOL! We got a spot near the Shooting Arcade and waited. All the bands did a great job. I teased the boys, who are both in band, that they need to practice so they could come to Disney someday. Actually they are much more into football than marching in a band.

Spectromagic was wonderful as always. We have only seen it from Main Street so over here in Frontierland gives a different perspective. DN loved it too. We have the musical score on CD and had played it for him. The lights and action of the various floats really bring the music to life.

It was really chilly at 9:30. DW found a shop in Liberty Square and bought herself a light jacket. The boys toughed it out even though their damp clothes and shoes had to be uncomfortable waiting for Wishes.

Wishes was spectacular. DN had only seen Fourth of July fireworks back in our small hometown which is nothing on the scale of Disney. He was very quiet and riveted to the sky watching the fireworks and listening to the music and narration of the story of wishes by Jiminy Cricket. This is truly Disney at its best.

Another Spectromagic is scheduled for 11:00 so we, like thousands of others, decide this is a good time to head for the exit. CMs are guiding guests to the monorails. It must have been too crowded on the platform for the express monorail to TTC because they were sending a group of us over to the resort monorail. It ends up at TTC but with one stop at the Contemporary. We wait for 2 trains until its our turn. Not bad really given the huge numbers of guests waiting. It was a treat for DN too since he got the chance to go inside the Contemporary Resort. He said he thought it must be cool to stay in this place. I agree!

Once at TTC we are down the ramp and on our way to the lot. Surprisingly traffic is flowing smoothly and we make our u-turn back through the toll gates and over toward FtW. It sure is nice that they took down the old gate. Once past the security shack, you don’t have to fumble with the room key and hope the gate works this time or that someone ahead of you is totally clueless about using the key to open it. All that needs to be done is to walk the dog while the guys make a comfort station visit. It was a long day and a total blast for all of us.

Next Up: Day Four (Animal Kingdom & MGM)
