| New York City Sister in laws and I are going to New York City
9/19/02 to 9/23/02. Were supposed to go same time last year but with 9/11 we cancelled our trip. None of us have ever been to New York. Any suggestions re: must sees. At this point we plan to see Statue of Liberty, a Broadway show and of course visit "ground zero". We are staying just off Time Square area. Would be greatful for any suggestions.
Thanks |

| Re: New York City I recommend you do th e grayline tours when you arrive. It is a great way to get an overview of this awesome city. If I am free I'd love to take you around. As for Broadway Shows, if either of you have a student id. bring it. You can get what are called Rush tickets. They cost $20.00 or 25.00 and are in hte front row. Must get them form the box office the day of the performance.
You also have to see our Disney Store. We have four floors. |

| Re: New York City Be sure to check out the new Toys r Us in Times Square. I havent' been yet but I've heard it's great.
If you are into Museums check out the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Metro Museum of National History. Also the NY Public Library is a museum itself.
I think thats the weekend we have tickets to the Lion King maybe we could meet somewhere. [ 03-10-2002, 08:24 PM: Message edited by: aurora1429 ] |

| Re: New York City Hey! We're going to NYC for Spring Break (Apr 1-Apr 5), so this thread is timely - we have Lion King tickets for the 3rd and my youngest son's birthday is the 2nd. Plan on also going to Ground Zero - what else is a "do not miss"??? |

| Re: New York City Steve, you must bring the kids to the new Toys' R Us store. It is on Broadway around 45th Street. It is awesome. A huge ferris wheel inside and other surprises for kids.
If you like zoos, The Bronx Zoo is excellent. |

| Re: New York City We love NYC!
Don't miss all above mentioned.
Plus....The Central Park Zoo (5th Ave). It's small but like no other. The penguins and polar bears are great to watch. It has a children's zoo also. And be sure to eat at Mars 2112 (B'way and 51st) and Jekyll and Hyde Club (Ave of the Americas near Central Park). The Circle Line for a wonderful view around Manhattan Island. Too many museums to mention. Once we get to the city we walk everywhere but there are taxis, buses, subways if you want to get there in a hurry. |

| Re: New York City Well, you didn't mention any special interest or hobbies.....but what about:
The double-decker bus tour because it takes you all over the city and you can get on and off to shop.
Chelsea is where most of the art galleries are located these days, it's the area west of FIT but in that neighborhood.
For food:
Katz's Deli on Houston Street for Hot Pastrami.
Patsy's Pizza under the Bkn Bridge for Pizza.
Serendipity III for ice cream, right around the corner from Bloomingdales.
Corner Bistro in the village for hamburgers.
New Green Bo in Chinatown on Bayard off Mott St.
Ferrara's in Little Italy for cappucino and biscotti.
Old Devil Moon on 12th between 1st Ave/Ave A has a great brunch menu on the weekend.
LILAC, of course, for chocolate!
As somebody else mentioned many many Museums..
American Craft Museum or the Museum of American Folk Art, along with typical MoMA, Met museums. Oh the Museum of Natural History (72nd or ? and CPW) may still have the Mikimoto Pearl Exhibit that even my nephews aged 8 and 10 enjoyed. Forbes Gallery, they have a great Faberge egg collection.
Theatre: "Metamorphoses" at Circle in the Square, it was great. The new musical to see is Oklahoma!
Any hobbies, special interests, food, etc. that you'd like to check out? - Post 'em! |

| Re: New York City Burt & Sully -- you really get around! I haven't been to NY in about 5 years. What I miss the most? Corned Beef and Pastrami sandwiches. Katz is great. The Carnegie Deli is a landmark. You must go there. However, I've never met a pastrami sandwich in NY that I didn't like. It's also the last stop I make on the way home -- one for the road.
Make sure you get some New York pizza too. There's nothing like it. And bialeys (sp?).
We used to have family in New York (they've almost all moved to Flordia now) and we'd take home 4 half-done pizzas and 4 dozen bialeys. (We had a car). |

| Re: New York City FAO Schwarz is a must see for first timers...that place is cool...
Also take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry (it's free), as you pull away from the dock in Manhattan, stay at the back of the ferry and watch the city grow smaller as the boat gets further away...it is an awesome sight, especially at night.
Another place I particularly like is the South Street Seaport, it has some nice shops, a museum and some ships to explore! |

| Re: New York City I moved to Connecticut in Junior high, went college and stayed thereafter in Manhattan. My sister and her family live in Brooklyn (near the Botanical Gardens). That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!
I could have done a list even longer; but I got somewhat "citysick" (as opposed to home sick) just sharing those few precious gems! Hee hee |

| Re: New York City Yup, FAO Schwartz was my suggestion as well as Rockefeller Center and NBC, St. Patricks Cathedral, and Strawberry Fields. I saw Aida on Broadway Thursday night. It was wonderful. Lion King was the absolute best. Also make sure you see Times Square at night!
