| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! Being from Ohio I have many choices, but I'd have to say my favorite is Cedar Point (only about 30 minutes away), second would be Six Flags (about 1 hour away) and thirdly, Paramont aka King's Island in Cincinnati (about 4 hours away). | Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! I've been to Busch Gardens Virginia a couple of times though both were over ten years ago. Fun but obviously no Disney. This summer we're gonna try Six New Flags New England for a day. I'm sure it'll be fun but, again, doesn't really belong in the same sentence with Walt Disney World. Have toyed with the idea of a day at Universal/IOA but then we realize how many things on our Disney list we haven't done yet...and that's the end of that. One of these days though...maybe |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! Well, I will plug IOA/US for ya! They are PHENOMENAL parks - they ROCK! Some of the best attractions around. The theming at IOA is incredible. I would classify them on par with ANY of the Disney parks - however they don't have the Disney magic - but they shouldn't - they aren't Disney! We did a Universal only trip in July 2001. Originally I thought how in the world can I go to Orlando and not step foot on Disney property, but can I tell you I'd do it again! We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel which is on par with the Grand Floridian IMHO in terms of amenities and luxury and service. Don't discount Universal, is my advice! Now, that said, I did know we were going to WDW in Nov 2001 for a 10 day stay, so maybe knowing that, made the Universal only trip a little easier, but I'll tell you that in Nov 2001 I really longed to hit the Universal parks, too! Life is tough! |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! Another vote for IOA here! Spiderman is, IMHO, second only to Indy in DL as the best ride ever, and I agree with Gonzo, the theming is Superb! The only problem we have is getting Gonzo off of the Cat in the Hat ride! Second choice goes to sentimental favorite Kennywood Park here in Pittsburgh. Lots of fond memories - this is where every school in the area holds its annual school picnics. Classic coasters and good food, too! |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! I can see that I need to get out more-haven't been to Cedar Point in 15 years and I lived in Toledo for 5 of those years, haven't been to King's Island for 20 years (5 hours away), haven't been to Kennywood ever (Pittsburgh is only 1 - 1/2 hours), don't like Six Flags Ohio (was there the last year it was Geauga Lake-can't remember when exactly or whether I had two kids or three-but it was within the last 7 years-I think DS might have been 2 and he's 6 so maybe 4 years ago)... My all time favorite SEA WORLD of OHIO (boo hoo, it's gone-that nasty Six Flags had to take it over). Oldest DS likes IOA (Hulk and Dragons)-I guess we'll have to break down and hit Cedar Point one of these days...he has been asking but unfortunately for him, mom's a disney fanatic. TRacy |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! Tracey - outside of Florida, Ohio is an amusement park mecca! WOW - you just have to get to Cedar Point. I mean, nothing can compare to Disney, nor should anything be compared to it - but Cedar Point is the best NON-Disney amusement park in the states I personally think. And Kings Island aint bad either! They both have some great coasters and rides - Cedar Point is more of a resort b/c they have the beach and water sports, too. We spent 3 days at Cedar Point in July 2000 and could have stayed twice that long! GO! GO! GO! [ 06-08-2002, 02:33 PM: Message edited by: Dadtojbj ] |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! We really enjoy Six Flags Over Texas...The original Six Flags!...But it doesn't even compare with Disney World. We are two hours from three Six Flags, one in DFW, another in San Antonio, and another in Houston. The roller coasters are pretty cool at all three, but from what I've seen on Travel Channel, they pale in comparison to those in Ohio! As a coaster family, I think we need to plan a trip to Ohio theme parks! But, how could we betray Disney World, how?!! |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! My non-Disney favorite is a small park that our family goes to every summer. I think it was rated the number one family park by some family magazine for the past few years in a row. It's called Knoebel's. They have a campground and our family spends a long weekend there every August. It's really an old fashioned type park, there's no admission, you just buy tickets for the rides as you go. The food is great and reasonably priced, and it's just a nice place to take the family. They have some roller coasters, but no big thrill rides. They have a wooden roller coaster that was moved from a closed park in Texas and it has been featured as one of the 10 best wooden roller coasters in the country. It's certainly not Disney, but it's fun! |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! The Pheonix! It's supposed to be a great coaster and I've heard nothing but wonderful things about the park! I hope it "stays small" - there aren't too many of those around these days. |

| Re: Favorite NON-Disney Amusement Park! You guys are getting me stoked about Universal and IOA parks for my upcoming November trip!! After our 4 day Disney cruise, we will hit Universal for three days!! Way cool... I did go to Cedar Point when I was a teenager and it was great. I loved all the coasters!! I have been to two Six Flags parks (Texas and Missouri-Texas was better!) and I hate to say I am not too excited about them anymore after doing WDW!! NO-DUUUHHH!!! So far, my favorite park, besides Disney, is Sea World in California. Wow, Dadtojbj, your sure have been around the "park" scene. Your tips are always helpful, thanks!
