Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) We just went to Yankee Stadium last Saturday! We had GREAT seats just above third base in the main level boxes. My 8 year old son's favorite part was the middle of the 5th when the Dragsters come out. Never heard of the Dragsters? It's the stadium's maintainence crew who come out dragging a mat behind them to smooth the dirt in the infield while they're marching and pumping their arms to the tune of the Village People's "Y.M.C.A." It's a riot!

Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) We've been to Camden Yards a few times, which is a terrific stadium. Yankee Stadium is great, but I haven't been in about 14 years (but we've got tickets for August 20th along with clubhouse passes courtesy of DFIL!) The stadium we go to the most, though is Veteran's Stadium in Philly. This is the 4th year our kids have been members of the "Junior Phillies Club." For $10 (I think) they get tickets to 4 games (general admission) plus a t-shirt and team photo. Very reasonable family night out. Plus we team it up with a pregame stop in South Philly for some authentic Philly Cheesesteaks at Pat's. Our 1st game is next Friday. They're going to be building a new stadium soon (due to open in 2004) so I think the Jr. Philly Club will be on the way out soon

| Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) There is nothing like Seattle's Safeco Field, and when they pull back that retractable roof, yeah baby, you are ready for some serious Mariner Baseball! After years in the Hideous King Dome, it is wonderful to watch a game with the sun shining down on you, and the grass is so green...It is a beautiful site! SODO MOJO! GO M'S!!!!!!! | Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) If we're talking baseball (and 'tis the season) I'm going to say the best baseball town ever! Busch Stadium in St. Louis! For me this is the summer version of fall in Nebraska. If you haven't been to a baseball game in St. Louis or college football in Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, well, you just haven't been. It's electric! I will give a sentimental write in to Wrigley Field. It's a beautiful place. |

Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) Wrigley Field! Can't beat the atmosphere, 7th inning stretch, ivy on the walls and the bleachers! . Even though the Cubs stink, It's still a great time!

Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) You are too kind. We LOVE our baseball up here to a degree that's not particualrly healthy at times. Like when the Yanks are in town Fenway's amazing. A baseball shrine. Seats are too small, concessions are too few, bathrooms are grim and sight lines are often poor. But there's something magic about it. I mean, you can actually feel the history it's amazing. The crowds are electric and the outside the park atmosphere is ballgame perfection. There's lotsa talk about whether or not to build a new one. A new Park would certainly be deluxe but it'd be hard, if not impossible, to say goodbye. I've also been to Camden Yards in Baltimore and have to say that's a fantastic park too. Reminded me a lot of Fenway actually. And my wife and I are headed down to New York next weekend. Somewhat amazingly, our first ever game at Yankee Stadium. Would love to get to Wrigley. [ 05-24-2002, 12:47 PM: Message edited by: mattjs ]

Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) I've gotta vote for the Yards, too. But later in the summer I'm going to bid fairwell to an old friend. We've got a trip planned to Cincinnati to say good-bye to Riverfront Stadium (now missing a section and with the silly name of Cinergy Field) where I watched the Big Red Machine play many a game as a kid.

Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) I have to join Mattjs with a vote for Fenway Park. Yes it is old but the history that comes with it is amazing. We have tickets for September for the Orioles/Red Sox in Camden Yards so we'll be able to see what it is like.

Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) There are other Fields besides Fenway??!! Why?????? Ok, I have to admit, I think San Francisco's is kind of cool. Just the stadium - not the team!

Re: Favorite Ballpark/Stadium! (for mattjs) There are some beautiful parks (DH just went to a Cards game at Busch Stadium last week and agrees with you Disney Fan) but the baseball I really like to watch (aside from DH) is the College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium here in Omaha. This is such a great time, fans are here from all over the country either supporting their college alma matter or watching family play. I just love to sit by strangers, find out why they're here, and root for their team. It is a blast, and I've even been known to root for the Canes (shhh! don't tell anyone) but I really like to cheer on LSU when they're here - such great fans. CWS is coming June 10th -- NU is only 2 games away from coming, then I wouldn't have to wonder who to cheer for! Let me know if your team is coming and I'll gladly support your team.
