| Colorado to Wisconsin - sites to see? On June 17 we are going to be driving from Fort Collins, Colorado to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. We will be pulling a trailer with a race car as my husband is going for a race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. We will be taking 3 days to drive out, 3 days for the race, 3 days in Wisconsin Dells for vacation and then 3 days to drive back - getting back on the 28th. We have two children - son, 13 and daughter, 11. While I have some ideas of stops to make along the way and things to do in Wisconsin Dells, any suggestions of things not to miss would be welcome. | Re: Colorado to Wisconsin - sites to see? Karen, there are so many fun things to do and see around the Dells area. Have you looked online? It's been at least 3 years since we have visited that area and I am sure some things have changed. I'll check around and see what I can find out from others here. Are you planning on going to Noahs Ark? It's a definate good time if you and your family like the water. |

| Re: Colorado to Wisconsin - sites to see? We are just taking the interstates. With pulling a trailer, we want to minimize the time on the road actually driving. So we will be going up I25 to Cheyenne, then taking I80 east, then the Trip-Tik seems strange, but eventually we get on I43 and take it up to Sheboygan. Recommendations on the best way to get from I80 to I43? Things I have on the plan right now - Strategic Air & Space Museum (Nebraska) Living History Farms (Des Moines Iowa) Great Platte River Road Archway Monument (Kearney Nebraska) In Wisconsin Dells - Noah's Ark We are staying at the Kalahari Resort which has it's own indoor/outdoor waterpark. Circus World Museum Dells Boat Tours We will have 3 days in Wisconsin Dells. Karen |

| Re: Colorado to Wisconsin - sites to see? I hope I'm not too late - we just returned from vacation ourselves. If you can, visit the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Family Fun magazine rates it even higher than the San Diego Zoo. There is an incredible acquarium with a walk-through tunnel where you can watch sharks swim directly above you. The zoo also has the country's largest indoor rain forrest. The zoo is situated right next to Rosenblatt Stadium, where the College World Series is currently going on. If you like baseball you can take in a game of that also, but parking will be difficult to impossible with a trailer so I would park somewhere else and take a cab. There is also the Old Market area of downtown Omaha which is a quaint, cobblestone-lined area with some eclectic shops and restaurants. If you want a nice lunch close to the SAC Museum try the buffet at the lodge of Mahoney State Park. The dining room has a nice view of the river. You'll see signs for Mahoney as you approach SAC from the west on I-80. (They have moved the museum off the AFB where it used to be, it is now west of town). E-mail me if you have any other questions about the Omaha area. |

| Re: Colorado to Wisconsin - sites to see? Why not head up to I-90. Wyoming is absoutely beautuful counrty. You then drive thru South Dakota. You have the Black Hills, Chief Crazy Horse monument, Mt. Rushmore monument, the Badlands then stop in Mitchell. They build a convention center type building out of corn. It is an amazing sight. Hope this helps. I've done it and would love to do it again. I just love road trips. |

| Re: Colorado to Wisconsin - sites to see? I live in Colorado Springs, Co. and originally from Iowa so we made many trips that direction when I was young. All I remember was how hot it was going back, but we had no air conditioning at that time. I was in Wisconsin a couple of years ago and we went to the House On The Rock but I can't remember where it was. If you look on the Internet under Wisconsin site I am sure you will find information on it. It was a great place to visit. I forget how much it cost. You all have a safe and fun trip. Another great little town to stop in is Wall, SD, home of the Wall Drug Store, lots of stores and some good eats, just a fun little place to see. We also stopped the the Corn Palace in Mitchell. Then we head north a bit to DeSmet and toured Laura Ingalls Wilder's home. From there we headed east on I-90 through Minnesota which was surprisingly beautiful country. I know this is a different route than what's your planning, but there might be some things that interest you. When I planned this trip, I went to each state's website and requested visitor's guides which were very helpful. A lot of the state guides will also include hotel listings which helped us since we didn't reserve any rooms ahead of time. Have Fun! | |
