I've even stood in awe, weak-kneed, on the ground, staring up at the underside of Steel Force at Dorney. None for me, sugar! I'm not that crazy! | Re: To all you thrill ride lovers Never have to twist my arm, Marci! It's funny, b/c I begged and begged my parents to go on the Corkscrew roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm in 1975 - the country's first modern day upside down coaster - and I think they were just too darn scared to go on it and my Grandmother was there and I think she thought it would fly off the tracks and was begging my dad not to take me on it when they 1/2 way considered it - God love her!! LOL! So, I wasn't able to go on it even though I was tall enough - I still haven't let mom and dad live that one down and all it did was stir up the thrill ride gene in me! I'll go on ANYTHING! |

Re: To all you thrill ride lovers Yeah, Marcie, that is a fun memory I have of my grandma - seriously, she had to sit down when she saw the Corkscrew - just something she had never seen and she couldn't believe how crazy it was! It's so funny b/c all it did was rise something like 75 feet, drop, turn and go through the corkscrew - it lasted like 20 seconds! HA! I wonder what she think of some of the really wild contraptions there days as she looks down from above!

Re: To all you thrill ride lovers I haven't ridden a single one on your list. However, while chaperoning DS's class trip to Sea World San Antonio last month I did get to ride the Great White 6 times without having to get back in line.

Re: To all you thrill ride lovers Oh my gosh! Steve, I had the same fight with my parents at Knott's Berry Farm (California??? same one??) in 1977 - but I was a few years older (15) so I rode it -- alone -- while everyone shook their head and said things like "she's gonna get herself killed one of these days." Looking back this was such a tame coaster! As for the list....well...I have coaster envy. The only one I have been on is the Mamba at World's of Fun. But while at WOF, I much prefer the Boomerang - it goes forward on the track - then takes you backward on the same track. I just love it! Not very wild, not even a loop, but I love the sensation! WOF has some good coasters, but the Orient Express is not one of them. Melt this piece of metal down for crying out loud. We plan on going to IOA and US on our next trip to Florida (which I can't talk about now that DD reads the boards - shhhh) and I WILL take in all the coasters - although I am a little skiddish about the Dueling Dragons. I'll watch it a few times first, but I'll definately ride it. And, I could be talked in to a PassPorter meet at Cedar Point sometime this summer. That would give us all a chance to ride some of these on the list.

Re: To all you thrill ride lovers Patsy, yep, same Corkscrew ride at Knott's Berry Farm! How funny is that? What is even more funny is that the very next year (1976) you may remember that Worlds of Fun opened an identical ride and they called it the Screamroller. I guess by then my parents had worked up a tad more nerve (and my Grandmother wasn't there!) and I remember waiting for like over an hour to ride all 20 seconds of it and we thought rides would never get any crazier! Who would have thunk?!? You will LOVE the coasters at IOA!!! The Incredible Hulk is just unbelievable - that launch and roll out of the tunnel is such a rush! And don't be afraid of Dueling Dragons! OMG, it is so smooth and so fun! YOU MUST SIT IN THE FRONT for your first ride for maximum thrills (it is worth the extra wait) and don't forget to ride both sides - they are both very different! I'll look forward to hearing more also about that coaster going in to the new Omaha park!
