Williamsburg, VA in July!

Sister and I are taking the kids to Williamsburg in July for a mini break. We will go to Busch Gardens and Water Country.

Any recommendations for dining, lodging or other sites to visit?

Susan

Re: Williamsburg, VA in July!

How long are you going to be in that area? The 3 attractions you mentioned will take up 4 days already!

One of my favorite vacations was a trip to Virginia with both of my sisters when I was 22. We did the Williamsburg area for 3 days, then headed to Virginia Beach for a couple of days, and then, we drove up to the mountains to take the long way home through Shenandoah! It was so pretty up there!

We're probably going to Williamsburg over Easter break next year. Have a great time!

How about a little trip report on your adventures when you get back?

Re: Williamsburg, VA in July!

In addition to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country USA, there is also Jamestown (learn the real story of Pocahontas, not the Disney version) and Yorktown nearby (probably a day total if you combine the two). We really like jamestown but my kids were much less interested in Yorktown.

One of our favorite places to eat is The Old Chickahominy House at 1211 Jamestown Road in Williamsburg. Specialties are traditional Virginia foods, including Brunswick Stew, ham biscuits, chicken and dumplings and homemade pies. It opens at 8:30 a.m. and is open for breakfast and lunch only. It can fill up, though, so you may have a wait a bit.

We generally stay near the outlets on the west side of Williamsburg at a Quality Inn out there. It may take a few extra minutes to drive to everything but it is cheaper. You are no more than 15 minutes from Busch Gardens down I-64.

Re: Williamsburg, VA in July!

Jamestown is a must along with Busch Gardens and Water Country. And if you are REALLY into theme parks - Paramount's Kings Dominion is about an hour northwest of Williamsburg - it's not NEARLY as nice as BG, though. You may consider touring Historic Williamsburg and the College of William and Mary - you can do a self tour or better yet a guided one. A couple of our favorite spots to eat include The Trellis which is in the heart of the old town and the campus, The Cheese Shop, which is more of a sandwhich place also in old town and The Whaling Company which is quite close to Busch Gardens. Since we day trip we haven't stayed in Williamsburg overnight, but I do know that there is a Courtyard Marriott on Rt 60 maybe 2 minutes from Busch Gardens and maybe 5 minutes from Water Country and 10 minutes or so from downtown Willimasburg.

ENJOY!

The Trellis is great, and it is right next to Colonial Williamsburg. If you eat there, and you like chocolate, get the Death By Chocolate dessert.

Ditto Steve's comments on Paramount's Kings Dominion being not quite as nice but it does have its own water park and a ton of coasters.

Hi!

We are going in July also! In addition to the places mentioned, there is a Marriott hotel right next to Busch Gardens, and there is a Days Inn right across the street from Water Country that has interior corridors and is more like a hotel.

Re: Williamsburg, VA in July!

My daughter's high school band, just got back from a 4day trip Williamsburg for a competition called Festa-val and stayed at the "New" Springhill Suites in Williamsburg on Richmond Road. About a year old. Only 6 miles from Busch Gardens and 2 miles from Colonial Williamsburg. The rooms are mini-suites, they had a room with 2double beds and a living room area with a pull-out sofa, mini kitchen too. Also the hotel has a complimentary continental breakfast. Springhill is owned by Marriott. Here's a link to Springhill...Have a great time...
