NYC Help! OK everyone, I leave for NYC with my 6 year old daughter next weekend. We'll be staying near Times Square very close to the TOYSRUS!!! I need suggestions on where to eat a casual early dinner/late lunch on Saturday and a brunch on Sunday after Church but before our matinee for Beauty and the Beast. We need places we can walk to from TOYSRUS. We're gonna try Mars 2112 on Sunday night. Thanks! [ 06-21-2002, 02:54 PM: Message edited by: Disneyman ]

Re: NYC Help! HOW FUN!! We just did this for Spring Break, but saw The Lion King instead! We couldn't make it into Mars 2112 - PACKED with a 3 hour wait! Get there early and try to go off peak. We stayed at the Times Square Hilton, which was very well appointed and just down from the New Amsterdam Theatre where Lion King plays. There are so many places to eat and we wanted to be immersed in the NYC atmosphere so I cannot remember the names of some of the places we ate - a lot of "mom and pop" places. You can walk just about anywhere! And Toys R Us ROCKS - ride the ferris wheel! The typical chains are all there, too (like Planet Hollywood, where we did eat for one meal due to the begging of my children and really is a hop from Toys R Us). We had a blast and I wish you the best trip!!!!!

Re: NYC Help! Charley-O's has a wonderful pre-theater menu. It is near Toys R Us and the food is delicious. It is a walk to B & B. Also, Carmine's which is served family style. Wonderful Italian Food. There is the Applebee's near The Lion King. Olive Garden near The Palace Theater where Aida is playing. Go to citysearch.com There are so many wonderful places to eat. Planet Hollywood is also in the heart of Times Square. Your daughter will LOVE Mars 2112.

Re: NYC Help! If you haven't got it yet, you might pick up the Unofficial Guide to NYC. I found it very helpful. We stayed at The Casablanca Hotel - just around the corner from ABC and ToysRUs. It's a great area! There are tons of restaurants around, all good. Let's see, can't remember the name of it, but there was a Chinese restaurant on the same street as the St. James theater, just about a block from the theater. Huge portions and not too pricey. If you like spicy food, the Manhattan Chili Company is nearby (I want to say 43rd St., it was next to our hotel). We just kind of walked around til we saw something interesting, checked the menu, and ate. We had great food, and only one bad service experience (at some upscale steak place - forgot the name). The deli's are to die for! I envy you going! Have a wonderful time!!

Re: NYC Help! Virgil's could be a good place to try...its a BBQ place near Times Sq. It's fairly busy & noisy, so a 6 year old would blend in well. The food is pretty good and very reasonably priced. The buttermilk biscuts with honey butter are the best! You also have to get the honey roasted cashews (street vendors sell them). They are the best...I have to get them every time I go to NYC.
