Honeymoon in New York - Some Questions? My fiance and I will be honeymooning in New York December 28, 2003- January 2, 2004. Since I have never been to New York, I have some questions to ask those who have. 1) My fiance and I would like to stay in Times Square, so that way we will be near all the New Year's Eve festivities. I am looking for a decently priced, but nice hotel. I was looking into the Hilton Times Square. Has anyone ever stayed here? Does anyone have any other suggestions of where to stay? 2) Ha anyone been to New York during this time of year? Did you try to get a New Year's Eve Package at a hotel where you can watch the ball drop from there, or did you go on the street with the rest of the crowds? 3) Lastly, what attractions are a must see in New York? I kinds know the obvious ones like Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square. Please tell me other things that I just have to see! Thanks, Andrea

Re: Honeymoon in New York - Some Questions? Andrea, what a great time of year to visit! But I have to warn you - Times Square at New Years can be VERY crowded! That's actually the understatement of the century. I would go with the package personally and watch the festivites from inside. Don't forget to skate in Rockefeller Center! And congratulations!

Re: Honeymoon in New York - Some Questions? I was in NY for New Years in 1998. We stayed at the Renassance Hotel in Times Square. They have a restaurant that overlooks Times and right at the Ball! However, we (a group of 6) went with a package to eat at Sardi's that was wonderful. When the time got close, we put on our coats and headed out for the streets. We were on a side street but still enjoyed the excitement of the New Years. The next day we rented a limo and went sight-seeing. One joy was going to Ferraro's [sp] for desserts! Wow, so many to choose from and they were all great. There is a cathederal north of Manhattan that was outstanding. I can't think of the name (maybe St. John's), but not the one downtown. This one had a beautiful stained glass and stone floor. We drove by many diffent landmarks. One evening we ate at the Tavern on the Green in Central Park. If you are going for New Years 2003, it may not be too early to start making reservations. Start calling the hotels and check out their reservations. You will love NY, we certainly did.

Re: Honeymoon in New York - Some Questions? We went last Christmas, and stayed at The Casablanca, practically in the middle of Times Square. I shopped around, and this was a great value for the price. It's a romantic little "boutique" hotel, that's basically all-concierge. Excellent lounge w/ continental breakfast, snacks all day, and 24 hour cappucino (yum!). Small rooms (typical NYC), but beautiful. We paid around $200/night, which was good for that area. There's another hotel, the Michelangelo, with similar rates, that a friend of my boyfriend highly recommends (and she has excellent taste). It's larger than the Casablanca, and north of Times Square. We left on the 30th, but I know the room rates in TS shot up for New Year's Eve (our $200/night room went up to $500/night but did include champagne, rooftop view of TS, etc.), so check this out carefully. Both hotels have websites -- I'll post them here if I can find them. They let you check availability & rates w/o having to make a reservation. As for things to see -- everything!! We mostly went to Broadway shows (5 of them in 4 days), but we also took the harbor cruise, went to the Natural History museum, and walked, walked, walked. Oh, and we had lunch at Sardi's, which was 'way cool, but found excellent ethnic food (Chinese, Indian, Deli) everywhere. I found "The Unofficial Guide to NYC" to be very helpful with planning. Good luck planning, and have a great time!
