Vacations in Mexico.....?

Do any of you vacation on Mexico? If so where? How about Cozumel or Cancun or somewhere around there? Ever been to Puerta Vallarta (can't spell that one! )? I'm in the process of planning a possible 15 year anniversary trip for DH and I (by ourselves!) for next summer. He's warming up to the idea. Any other suggestions?

Re: Vacations in Mexico.....?

Well check your email for one reason. For another, whenever we've been in the Caribbean and talked to others about their trips to Mexico they have been rather a disappointment. My younger brother went to the Puertavallarta area and it was way too commercialized and overdeveloped for him. They wound up staying in a distant fishing village and having a much better time. DH's editor prefers Cozumel over Cancun as it's not as developed. She's going to St. Martin next week for two weeks however......

Negril has Seven Mile Beach which is where we stay. I guess I should ask first what you are looking for in this type of vacation though, eh?

Re: Vacations in Mexico.....?

I would recommend either Cozumel or Cancun. Cozumel is less developed and has some spectacular diving. Cancun definitely offers more in the way of nightlife and restaurants. You can also get a wonderful tour that goes down to the ruins of some pyramids that is worth doing. At one time, one was offered on horseback which is great if you are in shape for it. I used to live in Southern CA and have done the Acapulco scene a number of years ago. I found the beaches there polluted and the hotels very old at that time. Also, of note, the Cancun area has the newest water treatment/purification facilities in all of Mexico ... so Montezuma is less likely to have his revenge on you in that area. If you go elsewhere, order bottled water and remember NO ICE. Keep in mind that salad veggies are rinsed/spritzed with the water too. Also, if you are taking children with you, make sure you have proper passport/id papers for them and permission to take children in writing and notarized if they are friends/relatives children or children you share custody of ... otherwise they may not let you into their country.
Hasta Luego!
