Re: UP/Mackinaw Island

Many years ago, we spent the day on Mackinaw Island. We rented bikes and rode around the island, watched Fudge being made in a store, paid a couple bucks to tour the lobby areas of the Grand Hotel. I remember it fondly. We were supposed to stay somewhere in the UP that night, but the hotel didn't have our reserved room for some reason and my poor Dad had to drive a couple more hours back to the main part of Michigan before we could find a room. That part is not a fond memory. I've dreamed about going back and staying in the Grand Hotel some day....and I will. -HiddenMickey

Re: UP/Mackinaw Island

WOW!!! Now that brings back memories. Some friends
and I worked on the Island in the summer of 90. I
was in charge of getting the Halls set-up for Banquets in the Grand Hotel. My other buddies worked in a bar, The Lamplighter I think it was called. It was a great summer. Really beautiful place to be.

Re: UP/Mackinaw Island

We went to Mackinac Island last summer. We used our Disney points from vacation club since we had gone down in spring on a business trip and did not plan to go back that summer.
Using Disney points included your room stay for two, breakfast for two and a five course dinner for two at the Grand Hotel. After 5:00 at the Grand you need to be in formal attire (no shorts etc). Before or after dinner they will take a formal picture of your group. We did purchase ours. Believe the cost was approx $25 or so. The Grand was beautiful and we enjoyed our stay on the island. They have an outdoor pool, a lawn where croquet and bocce ball was set up.
There is alot to do including Fort Mackinac (which is an actual fort and they have re-enactments etc), shopping, horse back riding, biking, buggy rides, hiking trails, golf etc.
If you have any questions, ask and I will try and answer.
