Need help booking for a large group

Every time we've gone to Disney in the past, I have booked on-line myself. This fall we are planning a large family group vacation and I want to be sure to get the best deal that I can for all of us. Can someone help me out with where to start and even maybe what kind of accomodations would be best? We will have at least 8 adults and 2 kids. We may have others decide to join us later. Thanks for any advice/help you can give!

Re: Need help booking for a large group

Grand Gatherings was the program designed just for families like yours! You can certainly go through an agency or give Disney a call direct. There are special activities just for large groups like a Magical Fireworks Cruise, for an additional fee. All of your families' resort reservations can be linked together- which will help in making other arrangements such as dining and recreation. You can add on additional families later, even after you've gotten it set up.

I would certainly start by getting your group together to sort out preferences and a budget. You all don't have to stay at the same resort, although many families like to. You might consider accomodations that fit bigger families, like suites, villas or Fort Wilderness Cabins. Or, you can always request adjoining or connecting rooms.

There are many Passporters here who have participated in Grand Gatherings that may be of help to you- you might check out the trip reports or planning sections.

It sounds like a great time and with advance planning, you'll make the most of it. Good luck!

Re: Need help booking for a large group

Planning for a large group can be daunting. Disney's grand gathering folks are really good. Some agencies have specials at various times during the year and you may find a good deal that way as well.

Here are a few tips:
- Be sure to allow for everyone's budget and tastes.
- Try to schedule one thing a day where everyone can meet and talk about the fun they are having.
- The Grand Gathering Experiences are great, think about scheduling one of them.
- Check into getting some t-shirts made for the group - its a great souvenir and makes it easy to spot one another in the crowds.

Happy Planning!!
