unbelievably high air fares

we are booked for the March 8 Western. (my husband's 65th, or I would have picked another date-this is March break in Canada) The airfares from Toronto to Orlando are well over 1000 each. OUCH. I see them climbing slowly. My DH INSISTS that they will come down in January. I'm scared silly. Another 2200-2500 on top of what I have already spent will really take a bite out of my savings. Is there a chance that the fares could come down?
If I can't get anything reasonable, I may consider rescheduling and going a month (or so) later. Is there any penalty by DCL for rescheduling?
TIA

I also checked online regarding leaving from Buffalo....it is a bit cheaper, but not as much as I expected it to be.

Oil is out of sight, and I doubt it will go down any time soon. The real surprise is the price difference, as the loonie is beating the snot out of george. Unless it's taxes and such.

As far as penalties, as long as you haven't hit the final payment date, you're not out a thing. However, you will pay whatever the going rate is for the cruise on that date. Let's say you paid $800 per person when you booked, but found that air was cheaper if you went in late April. But by now the fares for that date are $1000 pp. Your costs just went up $200 pp or $400. So it's all relative.

Like Dillon said, with oil prices so high and planes so full, the airlines just keep inching the prices upward. No one can accurately predict what the airlines will do with fares, but every week it seems we get news of another capacity cut, which drives prices up even further.

I am often stuck traveling during vacation weeks because I have a daughter in school. What I have found is that looking at alternate airports on both ends sometimes helps. What you need to find is the most competitive route that has empty seats. So I would check Tampa on the Florida end too.

There are other things you can do to cut airfare, but typically they end up costing you more in time and lodging.

Good luck!
