Help on split stay/connecting ressies ?'s

I have a question that I need to know if it is a feasible plan. This will be a concern ONLY if free dining comes up. We will be traveling to Disney on Aug 23rd and would stay as a room only at the same resort for one night then switching to my "original w/ dining" ressie on the 24th (which would be switched to the 24th as it is for the 23rd currently).
How would I make sure that my ressies are linked so they know that I am doing this as I want to try and avoid a room-switch if possible? Number two, is it possible to change my park hopper pass on my original ressie to 6 days and pick it up one day early so I could go into the parks the day BEFORE my original ressie kicks in? DOes this make sense? I have the dining plan on my ressie, will this prevent me from trying to pick up my park passes a day early?
Any help with this would be appreciated.

If you want to take advantage of the free dining, then you'd have to check-in on the 24th. You could do a one-night, room-only on the 23rd, but you wouldn't be able to get your park tickets in advance as they are part of a package that doesn't begin until the 24th.

While they can't guarantee you won't have to switch rooms, a couple things can help lessen the odds. List the second reservation # on the first and note that you'll have continuing reservations. Mention it at check-in that you've got two reservations and see if they can keep you in the same room. And of course, make sure you've got the same category / view room with both reservations!

It's a good deal if you can take advantage of the free dining so if you have to make a one-night room-only reservation for that first night, there's lots you can do that doesn't require park tickets. Explore other resorts, play mini-golf, go biking or boating or just lay around the pool for the day. Watch the Electrical Water Parade and Wishes from the beach at the Poly! Since you're a PassPorter Club Passholder, check out the 'Free Disney' ebook available to passholders for lots more ideas.

All that Lynn says above is true, linking the reservations is very easy, just tell Disney to list your package reservation to the room only so its continuing. Its up to the front desk when you get there to make sure your room is not moved but they are usually very accomodating for these requests. Have a great time !
