Airfare, the good the bad and the ugly! How is everyone handling the airfare nightmare going on currently with high prices and potential for a strike? Are you on an e-mail notification with the individual airlines, or a search with Travelocity and the like? Jean

Re: Airfare, the good the bad and the ugly! I don't know if you've seen it, but Disney offers its cruisers a package for their airfare and ground transportation. It includes roundtrip(in our case from Phila.)motorcoach ground transportation, and all baggage transfers. I made our ressies in June of last year, and paid 279.00 per person. Of course, I won't know until 30 days before my departure date what airlines I'm flying or what time. I'll let you know that info when it comes in, but in the mean time could you let me know if it sounds like a good deal? Thanks. Oh, many congratulations on your new status as moderator. With all your knowledge you certainly deserve it!!

| Re: Airfare, the good the bad and the ugly! Maggiemay: Yes I knew about the air transfer package through WDW. They also offer through resort vacations as well as the cruise. I weight the facts and a lot of times I can get the air at a lower rate than the airlines because it is bulk air with a good choice of times. Thanks for bringing that up as a lot of people are not aware. I also like to do it that way as I often times book many months in advance and yet air portion is not due until 45 days prior to arrival, instead of having to shell out the money within 24 hours. | Re: Airfare, the good the bad and the ugly! Jean- My family is flying April 15 & 16. DH, my mom and I are flying from Hartford, CT on Delta and my youngest daughter is flying from Boston on Delta. However, my oldest daughter and granddaughter are flying from Charlotte on USAir. Trying to get an alternative from Charlotte at this point is extremely expensive. She said if she has to she will drive. I think I'm on e-mail notification because I've already had to change her outbound flight. USAir sent me a message to contact them regarding a time change. Why are they talking about the dates between March 25 and April 9? I know the strike is set for the 25th, but what about the 9th? They can't be sure of things getting back to normal after that, can they? Thanks for any info! Take care- Laura "When you wish............. |

Re: Airfare, the good the bad and the ugly! Laurabelle: The updates about this mess has slowed to a trickle. I'm having to beg, borrow and steal any info I can get. US AIR has threatened to close down completely rather than deal with a strike. It is anyone's guess whether at the 11th hour something comes through to halt this. I advised all my clients to either cancel and rebook with another airline or have me issue a paper ticket to be honored through another airline. This may be worry for naught on your side, but, being forewarned is forearmed. My advise is for her to get a paper ticket, yes she'll have to pay the extra but peace of mind is sometimes worth the fee. Watch these boards and be prepared to have an alternate plan just in case. Any and all news I'll put on the board as soon as I hear. Everyone, chins up!! Jean

Re: Airfare, the good the bad and the ugly! You can still get the deals - you just need to stay on top of the airfare sales. They seem to be few and far between but they do pop up. They just had a $209 roundtrip sale out of Milwaukee where I live and now it is back up to around $300. You just need that one airline to kick it off. Leslie

Re: Airfare, the good the bad and the ugly! Leslie: Absolutely right! On the getting there and back forum are some deals that have come about recently. There are some people that have gotten a better airfare after canceling US AIR and booking a special with another airline. I do know for sure that other airlines are prepared for this and are bringing in bigger aircraft, to a lot of airports. Jean
