May 2004 - Transportation from Train

Hi Jean
I've read so many great things about you I figured I'd throw my question at you.
We're planning for May 2004 from Boston via train (my oldest son will NOT fly - he'd rather stay home). Which station is best to get off at (Sanford, Orlando, other?)? and what's the best way (quickest/least expensive) to get from the station to our WDW resort? There will be 3 children and 2 adults (possible 4 adults, unless my parents opt to fly in). Many thanks!

You will need to contact one of the towncar services or Mear's shuttle for prices, then you can determine which would be a better pickup point. With 5 or possibly 7 you will need a van.

Re: May 2004 - Transportation from Train

Joanne, Kissimmee is the closest Amtrak station to WDW. (It's the next stop after Orlando, about 15-20 minutes more). It's much easier to get to WDW from KIS, as you totally avoid I-4.

I use one of the towncar services (Tiffany, Yourride, etc.). The last time I checked, Mears did not pick up in KIS, but they did at Orlando.

Have a great trip!

Re: May 2004 - Transportation from Train

Hi Joann,
This will be my 3rd trip by train from Phila. I got off the first time at Kiss expecting to be picked up by Mears and found that they don't come on a regular basis since the station is not that busy and we had prepaid and arranged the pick up with AAA prior to arrival. We ended up taking a taxi that the station master called for us and at the advice of the station master have not used either Kiss as a point of departure of Mears as a pick up service.
In April of last year we took the train to Orlando and arranged with Tiffany to pick us up. The train was over an hour late due to problems on the track and when we got off our driver was there waiting for us. On the way back to Orlando I4 was very busy but the driver got off and took some secondary street that he said they always use when I4 is busy and we arrived at the station in plenty of time.
In December when we go again we are using Tiffany and getting off at Orlando. I also thought the station at Orlando was a little cleaner than the one at Kiss. The cost is the same for both stations as per Tiffany so that is not a factor and most people get off at Orlando. The extra time it takes you to travel to Kiss on the train is just about the same time it takes you to get to DW.
