airfare pricing

I have never used a travel agent before. If you book airline tickets through an agent, will the agent continue to look for better prices? Will an agent notify you of a better deal?

Re: airfare pricing

Typically not. First, most tickets are nonrefundable, so that's one stick in the way. SW will give you a credit on future travel and some other airlines will do the same. Also, fares are notroiously flighty. Some come and go in as few as 10 minutes. My final reason for recommending that my clients book their own airfare is that if I have to call the airline, there's a charge of between $5 and $15 from most carriers. Better to do it online. And best to do it direct. American and Continental both advertise that they will meet any booking engine price and not charge a fee. SW doesn't participate. So that's three that I know of.

That's just my personal opinion. Someone else is more than welcome to contradict me, there's always more than one answer to any question. 1+1=1.9999999... A simple math proof.

Re: airfare pricing

I agree..it is probably best to book your air yourself & ONLINE most definitely... Keep a close eye on your flights even after you've booked & up to the last day as some airlines will give you credit for another flight..

Last year our air price went down by $15 & we were able to get a credit toward a future trip... great savings!
