Breaking News: JoanW visits DouglasE, hilarity ensues

I have learned the lesson that to assume makes an ass out of you and me. I do realize that my announcement entails a distance that is too great for most, but if I don't ask then I might be missing out. The wonderfully fun-loving JoanW is visiting me here in Philly on March 9. Why March 9? She wants to experience the fabulosity of Black Tie Gay Bingo! Honey, it's not your grandmother's bingo. Enjoy cocktails, dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and of course a hysterical time with 6 bingo games. We'll meet some of my drag queen friends, otherwise known as the Bingo Verifying Divas (BVD's). If you like to dress up and have an incredibly fun night, then you should join us at the Crystal Tea Room (at least that's where they have hosted it the past few years in the original Wanamakers building).

I think you've made a pretty safe assumption! I do hope some sort of a TR will follow this announcement. Wish I could join you, but I do have a good excuse-- I'll be on my way to South Africa!

Gosh Laurie what an incredible trip! South Africa is very high up on places I want to visit. I'm sure you will have the time of your life on that trip. Although, the time spent in an airplane, would probably drive me nuts. Are you flying directly to Africa or planning on crossing the Atlantic and then laying over for a few days to break it up?

Even if no other Passporters join Joan and myself we will have an awesome time. We both can't wait. Now I just need to go shopping for the perfect bow tie. Do you think 4 months is enough time?

I'll be starting a pre-trip report sometime in January for the South Africa trip. This one took a lot of planning! You're right about the flight, though. I'm NOT looking forward to that. I leave Boston Saturday night and arrive in Cape Town MONDAY morning!! Insane. Fortunately, I have a few hours' layover in London and Cheryl and Mark are coming to Heathrow to visit! I thought about staying at least for an overnight in London, but decided to just keep flying.

Good luck finding the perfect bow tie. I know you and Joan will have a great time!

When I saw this, I was hoping this might be in Disney in a couple of weeks' time, so I could see some of my favourite people again - darn, foiled again. I definitely want a trip report so I can enjoy this, as I bet it's going to be an absolute ball!

I'll be there, too! With at least one of my GNWDB's (Girls Night Whiskey-Drinkin' B*****es ). My bestie, Bibi, has agreed to join me for Black Tie Gay Bingo and a day in Philly with Douglas and Joan. Still working on the other GNWDB's, but I'm not holding my breath.

That's great that Bibi is joining us. We are going to have a blast. Tonight I had a pumpkin pie martini. The gingersnap crumb rimmed around the glass did it for me.

From discussions I've had with Joan and Chrissi, it looks like we will be visiting PYT to have adult milkshakes. Lunch at Jose Garces' latest Philly destination, Village Whiskey (the burgers are supposed to be super duper good). How do you feel about bowling? The bowling alley, North Bowl, near PYT is renowned for their tater tots. I can't bowl worth s***. But it is always good for a laugh.

Douglas, it's like you're reading my mind. I love to bowl (so does Bibi) and I'm a big fan of gourmet tots. (Bibi is vegetarian [but not religiously so, she can eat a piece of bacon once every ten years], so tots will hit the spot for her, too.)

Ok, we'll try to fit North Bowl into the day. It's gonna be a jam packed day. Consider it a day long grazing of food and drink.

Welcome to North Bowl

So here is a link for PYT's menu. Scroll down to the adult milkshakes. I'm guessing Joan will go for the Peanut Butter Bacon milkshake: Vanilla ice cream, creamy peanut butter, real bacon and vanilla vodka.

PYT

And here is a link to Jose Garces' Village Whiskey website. I think their burgers are better. The menu does include some vegetarian options.

I'm sorry to say I had to back out of this meet and event due to a very close family friend's illness. I hope you all have fun. I'm sorry I can't be there.

It sounds like you guys are going to have a great day. If I lived closer, I'd rather join you guys than do what I have to - go to Lenny's mothers funeral.
