| Photos and Report of NYC Mini Meet Good evening everyone! I am happy to share with you some photos and a brief report of the mini meet in New York city last Saturday. Joe, our fearless leader, planned the day for us. I brought DS Chris, and his friend, Tony, with me for the weekend. We left Pittsburgh on a Greyhound bus at 11:45 p.m. Friday evening and arrived in NYC 1.5 hours early, at 7:30 a.m. Let's just say Greyhound is not my favorite mode of transportation, but it certainly was an adventure! We were able to sleep most of the way, so it wasn't bad at all. Since we were early, we decided to walk to our hotel, the Murray Hill Suites East, 1.25 miles from the bus station. We walked past Times Square and were immediately in awe! None of us had been to NYC before, and Tony and Chris plan to relocate there eventually - Tony to produce films and Chris to pursue his artwork and become a techno DJ. We are pleasantly surprised when we arrive at the hotel that they let us check in, and it is only 9:00 a.m.! I paid $70 for the room on Priceline. It is in a nice area of the city, and we open the door to a full suite with bedroom, living and dining area, kitchen, and even a patio! Wow, I'm impressed!! We crash for a while, and then walk down Fifth Avenue to meet everyone for the meet. Chris and Tony beg off the Disney Store, so we walk to Trump Tower first, and I leave them at Tower Records, with the understanding they will come back to the DS to meet up with the rest of us. At the DS (Wow - three floors!), I get the opportunity to meet Rose and Tom, Kristen, Zach and Beka, and once again see Joe. We decide to split up a bit to shop - and I do a small bit of damage, purchasing all NYC-related items - a sweatshirt, Minnie as the Statue of Liberty beanie, floaty pen, minnie pen, 2 NYC pins, and some sour patch kids for Craig, who decided not to make the trip (doesn't like sleeping on buses). After we are finished shopping, Tony and Chris meet up with us, and we decide to get a group shot in front of Cruella, in honor of Joanne - so Joanne - here's to you! Tony and Chris in front, Back row L-R - Kristen, Zach, Beka, Rose, Joe, Tom, and me! Next, we get on the subway to the South Seaport for lunch. We hope to meet up with Jeannie, but unfortunately, she was unable to make it. So, we go to Unos and enjoy lunch together. It is so much fun meeting up with Passporters - who else can share our love of the Mouse with us? Sorry this one is so dark Tom - I lost you in the shadows! After lunch, we head over to the Circle Line boat for our tour. Chris, Tony and I get our pics in front of the Brooklyn Bridge. As you can see, the day was overcast, and there was a light rain going, but that didn't dampen our fun! Once on the boat, we had a great tour, seeing Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, and the Manhattan Skyline. Here are your Passporters enjoying the ride. Kristen, Zach and Beka Rose and Tom Our gracious host, Joe I got a bit flustered when the tour guide looked at me and said "Are you from Pittsburgh, by any chance?" Turns out I had my "Mickey Rocks" shirt on, and we have an area called "McKees Rocks" here in Pittsburgh that is sometimes dubbed "Mickey Rocks" Whoa! Told him I was, in fact from Pittsburgh, but the "Mickey" on my shirt was the Mouse! The guide made sure to make several references to Pittsburgh during the tour after that. Kristen's kids got these cool hats after the cruise. Are these not two of the most adorable children you have ever seen? After the cruise, Kristen, Beka and Zach left us to go on their way. I really wanted to see Ground Zero, so that's were we headed next. Wow! I had no idea. It all became so real seeing it, and so incredibly sad, terrifying, and real. I will never forget it. We got on the subway, Joe helping us navigate the rest of our weekend, and we say goodbye at our separate stops. We had a wonderful time meeting everyone! The rest of the day for us included seeing Phantom of the Opera and visiting Times Square in the evening. Even had a piece of cheesecake at 12:30 a.m., as there was no Food Police in sight! The next day we visited the Whitney Musuem of Art, had a hot dog and pretzel in Central Park, and visited the Chinatown and Soho areas. I picked up a very cool Warhol silk Mickey Mouse scarf, that I HAD to wear to work the next day. We got on the bus for Pittburgh at 9:00 p.m. and arrived back here at 5:30 a.m. Quick stop home to shower, and then back downtown to work. It was a wonderful weekend! Loved the meet, everyone was great, and loved New York City - can't wait to go back again - thanks again, Joe! |

| Re: Photos and Report of NYC Mini Meet Wow...great report, wish I could have been there as you were right in my own backyard. But I was on my way to see the Mouse so I don't feel too bad, but count me in next time you have an NYC meet! Isn't that Disney Store great? My kids have not been there because I don't like taking them on the ferry, but I promised them last week that we would go there to check out the pins as my son is now a pin trader. Once again thanks for sharing your report and pics with us! |
