Our Journey Through Cub Scouts (The Year of the Wolf).

This blog is my little place to describe the ups and downs of our experiences in Cub Scouts. Since Joshua's in the second grade, that makes him a Wolf Cub! Read along and please feel free to share your experiences as well.

While reading, you may encounter these names and/or their abbreviations:

Tim - CM - our Cubmaster, the person who oversees the entire pack
Jay - ACM - our Assistant Cubmaster, who is also my husband
Christie - DL - our Den Leader, the person who is in charge of our Wolf den (Yes, that would be me. I think I might be crazy!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<------- Over there in the sidebar are some abbreviated versions of my end-of-the-year posts from our year in Tiger Cubs. I will keep the Suggestions post updated to let you know if any of them are adopted.
Elective 14a - Take Care of a Pet
I forgot about this one! Thumbing through Joshua's handbook today I noticed it. Here's the backstory: during the school year Joshua is in a missions class at our church. There is a workbook they have for each grade level, to earn points toward various awards. But probably because of the cost of all those awards, our church doesn't do them, they just give all the boys a couple of patches at the end of the year for recognition. Well, being the control freak that I am, I couldn't leave that one alone!
I always plan activities for Joshua to do during the summer, having structure is helpful for me and it keeps him from sitting in front of the Wii all his waking hours. So I broke down the activities from his Missions book and assigned them to the different weeks over the summer that we didn't have anything else planned. One of the units in the book focused on Responsibility. The activity I picked out for him to do for that unit had several parts, but one part for that week was to take care of your pet. Mainly just to make sure it had food and water, which was the same thing the Wolf handbook called for.
Joshua checked on our cat every day that week, I let him handle that part by himself. When I would be going out back throughout the day I would check to make sure she was okay (I didn't want her to starve!) but he handled the feeding and watering. He has continued checking on her after that project finished, although not every day. But he hasn't forgotten about her! I know, I should probably give him more responsibility around the house with things like this, but the cat is my "baby" and I tend to want to take care of her myself.
Progress toward Gold Arrow Point: 5/10
    Yeah, especially since she has to live on the enclosed back porch now. She refuses to always use her potty, so that's the only safe place for her nowadays! She is happy anytime somebody comes out there and talks to her. I wish she would behave, I would love to have her come back in the house on a regular basis!
