Do you ever wave and say thanks to your garbage man?
This is what is on my mind, so I'm testing to see if it is blogworthy.
Whenever the garbage man takes the garbage, if I am out in the yard, I wave and say "thank you!"
Once, when I was seen doing that, I was told it was nuts. Have you ever waved to or thanked your garbage man?
It isn't that the garbage men look like Mel Gibson or Robert Downey Junior. It isn't even simply because I tend to greet anyone I make eye contact with, because I'll sometimes yell across the yard to offer thanks.
It is because...well...I REALLY DO APPRECIATE THEM!
Yardwork is hard! I'm not the strongest person in the world, and all that hedge trimming, mulching, edging, clipping, and weeding is back breaking work. I end up with bags and bags and cans and cans of stuff.
Well, once a week, when I know the garbage men are coming to pick up yard waste, I feel like I've been given a shot in the arm of energy and motivation. There is something about the fact that these men drive by and take away the piles of nature that I no longer want around that makes me so eager to see how much I can put out there for them.
Last week I ended up with maybe five full trash cans and a whole bunch of bags. It feels so much better than clipping branches or pulling weeds and then having to look at the dying nature for days.
I also just LOVE the feeling that someone is helping me, even if it is just to drag the stuff away.
So, I am off to the yard to see how many trash cans I can fill with yard waste, and, if I am REALLY lucky, I'll get to see the guys dump it into the truck! And, if I am out in the yard, I'll wave and say "thanks" no matter how silly it may seem.
My tax dollars at work!

I'm from the south, so waving at strangers is natural for me. HEHE. I always tell my chiropractor thank you after he realigns my neck and it cracks and complains too. We think that is funny. I don't think there is any harm in greeting anyone and thanking people who extend a service to you. You never know, you may make the only kind gesture that person gets on that particular day, and they may need the encouragement.Posted 08-27-2009 at 06:04 PM by GoofEme
