Practical area-cynics and pessimists welcome

Somehow, I can't believe that there are any heights that can't be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four Cs. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably.
Walt Disney

Many readers and friends seem to be in synch with the topic of confidence.

During a catch-up call with my friend Doreen, she mentioned that the topic of her latest article was confidence. As she told me about it, I wondered how it was that, of all the topics we could have picked, we both chose confidence.

Some readers have mentioned that they lack the confidence to even set a goal.

Some posters have let me know, in one way or another, that they were overwhelmed, uninspired, or, for any number of reasons, having difficulty with the concept of pursuing their dreams. It is difficult to focus on any goal that is not necessary for survival or facing a hard time deadline, I realized that the hard facts are just as important as the dreams, especially if you want to see those dreams come true.

A while back I created a space called dream_area_no_practical_thinking_allowed.

Today I'm creating an area for those who need to complain about how hard their goal is, why things are getting in the way, why they have no time...whatever.

Bookmark this place if you think you'll need to visit often, but once you leave, you have to leave all your practical whys or why nots posted here.

Use this to think through your stuck places, do find a way over the barriers, and to find solutions for the problems that get in the way.

Be careful not to get too stuck in the "why nots", but visit here as often as you need.

Let's see if anyone takes me up on this.

Well I won't go on about the unfairness of my life.

But what it comes down to is this.

There is a mountain in my way.

    And its name is money.

Am I free to speak here???

    I will stay on topic.

    I will behave.

    I will not mention monkeys.

And I am willing to work on this.

    Thanks Sandy.

That was very poetic, Scott. I'm sure there are MANY who could relate to money problems. Is there some plan you can focus on to save little by little? Is there a loose change jar that you can count out and put into a special account? Maybe this year's Christmas could be you and Mary contributing to the Disney fund?

Its hard to come up with a plan when there are so few jobs. I am saving little by little. But I sure wish I had some of the skills Walt had. Now he could get money fast!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, are you sure Walt was able to get money fast? What I heard was that he started with very little, he lost Oswald, and he struggled quite a bit before he hit the target. Sounds like he would be a perfect role model!

Oh good we are talking about jobs and money. I find both depressing right now as I just got laid off a few hours ago. Kind of sucks, really loved that job. Monday I have to start a new. That means I will actually have to work and that really sucks. Somewhere I am supposed to be thankful I have another job to go to. I just don't seem to care. I liked my job and losing sucks. I will be thankful later but for now is it ok to be really unhappy?

Yup! If you are unhappy, you are unhappy and that's all there is to it! It is bad enough to get laid off, but when it is from a job you enjoy, that is worse! My school based practice dropped more than 50% in September because of enrollment and I was also afraid I'd have to leave. Not to sugarcoat a big doody, but the contemplation and time led me to some good insights, especially for how much I really do want to be a writer.

But, sorry, I digress to the bright side and this particular blog area is not for that.

Well, you are in the right place, because this is the area for nothing but complaints, anxiety, self-doubt, all of that.

I started this particular entry because I was getting so many messages from people who were just not feeling up to looking at the bright side or setting creative and optimistic goals.

I've never blogged before, but any blog that forces people to think happy thoughts seems like it is missing something.

Maybe we can be a transitional_Group for you.

Also, I can tell you that you picked a good time to join the PassPorter boards in general because we have some of the most supportive people here, really.

If you get to the point that you want to revise your goal for the job hunt, or for some other updated need, just post the revised goal here:
    goal_update

    Until then, Keep us posted.
