When we got off of the ship we were hounded by the locals to have your child's hair or your hair braided. I wish we would have went to Atlantis to tour but we didn't. We spent the afternoon in Nassau just shopping. It sure was culture shock for us, but interesting. We took a carriage ride through town, it was pretty neat. But beware there was a man helping with the carriage who asked if we wanted him to take our picture together (now mind you this is with our camera) then he asked for a tip. I think we would have had more fun if we had booked some excursions. The Dolphin encounter sounds neat but at the time my dd was too young.

As far as the ship the kids club was great and at the end of our cruise all the kids were allowed to participate in a show in one of the large theaters featuring them. They all received t-shirts to wear during the show and the characters danced while the kids sang. It was a neat experience. ( This was in 2004, so I don't know if they are still doing it). DD also made a kite to fly at Castaway Cay (but I think we left it in the room).

I'm not sure if you are stopping in Castaway Cay, but if you are the snorkeling was fun (look for Mickey under the water) and very safe for an 8 year old. Life jackets and equipment is supplied for everyone who books this excersion. My dd was too young (had just turned 5) so we took her to the club on the island for her to play until we finished.

We really enjoyed our cruise. I hope you have a great trip. Relax and have fun. There is sooooo much to do that it isn't possible to get everything. They will give you a list of events when you board the ship. Pick and choose what you feel will be most interesting.
