| I'm an Adobe Photoshop Elements ( Adobe - Adobe Photoshop Elements ) user for a cheap, well rounded program. It does everything the average user will need. I also have the much, much, much more expensive Photoshop CS3 as my heavy duty photo editing program... ACDSee ( ACDSee - Products ) is another inexpensive program recommended by tons of my fellow photographers on the other forums. I'm sure there are others, but those are the two I'm most familiar with.

| I second Bill's recommendation for PhotoShop's Elements (Costco and Sam's usually have it for between $80-90.) It's full-featured, but not overwhelming and it has lots of great tools for editing vacation photos! Eileen

| I'm on a Mac. Yeah, iPhoto is really an organizer with a couple basic editing tools. I use Adobe Lightroom as my editor/organizer now. And an older copy of Elements (3.0) that I still use for some stuff.

| Did a quick internet search. There is a photoshop elements for Mac. Being a PC user can't tell if it is different, but it is available. Version 6.0 for MAC was released in January.

| Photoshop Elements is a really powerful program. I think it gives you the most bang-for-your-buck when it comes to photo editing. I think on average it runs about $100, but I've seen it cheaper (like in the $60) at Costco. They send out coupons for it frequently as well.

| I'm on a new iMac and love iPhoto. It has the basic editing stuff for me at this point. Apple has out a new program called Aperture which has more advanced stuff than iPhoto. Don't know how it compares to Photoshop and some of the others though.

| Aperture is very similar to Lightroom. Of the two programs, I think Lightroom is the more versatile program that will allow you do do a whole lot more. Aperture is a good organizing program, but I find that Lightroom will not only do exactly the same thing as Aperture, but it will also do MORE. I just feel that if you love to edit and organize your photos, you won't go wrong with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop (Elements if you can't afford the full program). You can start playing with actions (lots of free ones available all over the Internet, the paid ones are usually a little more fun though) and presets and really have some fun with your photos. Both Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 (and Elements) are all available for Mac. In fact, most pro photographers and graphic designers work on Macs. I have both programs both for my Macs and for my PC's.

| I know I'm chiming in a little late here, but have you tried the GIMP? It's a free "knock-off" of photoshop available for download online. it's not perfect, but it does what I need it to do, and it's great for me because it was free. other than that, i've heard great things about photoshop elements.
