Need to pick your brain

Ok Bill and Rob I know this has been posted many, many times but I just need a straight forward answer.

My digital camera died last week as you know from my posts. Anywho I am in the market and this is the criteria that I am going by. DH says he wants to purchase the camera from Ritz Camera Shop (not that this matters)

1. Use of general family/everyday/parties/kids etc photo taking.

2. Want to be able to zoom better than what i have or had now. I had a cannon that was a 2.0 not sure about the zoom on it.

3. would like one that has that new face recognize thingy and red eye reduction a possibility but not a gotta have

4. MUST have a big view screen. My old feeble eyes need it!

5. Don't want to spend over $200 for this camera.

Color of camera doesn't matter to me and style doesn't really matter. I would prefer not to have something big and bulky but given I don't know much about digital cameras....

I've only owned a Cannon and have heard that the Kodak easy share isn't so easy to use. Also I have CF cards so I would like to get one that would accept them so I don't have an added expense.

This is all I can think of right now, any suggestions/info you can give is really appreciated! Thanks!

Gina

Ritz is a good, reliable camera store. If he's going to do it on-line, decide which brand/model you want and search for the best price...

Most every camera today will do this good...

Most likely a 3X zoom, that was the norm... You can get good pocket cameras now with 4, 5, and 6X optical zooms...

Most all new cameras have this now...

Know this feeling well. Again, most newer cameras have the larger viewing screens...

Easy to do, there are many not-so-expensive good cameras out there, it will just take a little research and playing with...

This seems to be the market target lately, there are many pocket cameras with good zooms and larger view screens...

There are a few newer Canon's that would fit your requirements. I have a Kodak Easy Share Z-1275 and I it. I just bought Jan an Olympus camera made for her, the SW1030 (shockproof and waterproof) but they're both just a little over your budget...

CF cards will pose a small problem, most newer cameras use SD/MMC, which are smaller in size. But the good thing is that they're cheap, cheaper then CF...

Here's a site I use often to check out cameras.

Steve's Digicams - Main Menu

This link puts you to their compare link, you can scroll down and set your preferences, viewfinder size, price, zoom range, etc...

Cameras - Steve's Digicams

Once you find a camera you're interested in, you can check out his review of that camera and he provides links to on-line suppliers with their prices...

If you want hands-on, once you chose a camera or two, go to Best Buy, Office Depot, Circuit city, Wal-Mart, or any other retailer with them so you can handle them and see what you want...
