RCA Small Wonder Camcorder

Anyone have one? I just ordered one due to it's size. It's the size of a digital camera. I read pretty good reviews on CNET. I'm not expecting it to be as good as my JVC miniDV camcorder but I like the portability. I want it to take on vacation. The last 2 yrs. we lugged our JVC to Florida but always decided we didn't want to carry it all over (esp. when riding rides, etc.). Any one ever used it?

We left the camcorder at home and just took digital video on our Canon SD750. Worked out GREAT and it fit in my pocket!

My camera does video also but I don't want to use up my batteries & memory cards with a lot of video because I takes LOTS of photos also. You can also buy a docking station for this camcorder to convert it striaght to DVD.

We had 2, 2 GB cards and didn't have any issues.

Hmmm... we did max out the 2GB card at 5 days but dh had his laptop w/ him so we just downloaded everything and started over... barely touched the second card.

I'm going for 5 days w/ dd in July and dh just picked me up a 4GB card. I'll just bring a 2GB for a backup.

We probably took about 10min of video during our trip. We don't video parades and shows...mostly just our kids!

I just ordered the RCA Small Wonder EZ200 a few days ago from Buy.com. I didn't receive it yet though. At 3.9" x 2.4" x 1.1" it's smaller than the Flip Ultra. It's about the size of a deck of cards but 1/3 inch thicker. That's the smallest device of this type I've found. Also, unlike the Flips, these Small Wonders have the fold-out LCD and expandable MicroSD slot. I was concerned that the slightly more expensive EZ205 might do better quality image and sound than the $10 cheaper EZ200 so I contacted RCA about that and asked...

Quote:
The two models (RCA Small Wonder EZ200 and EZ205) look the same except for color. I would like to know if the image and sound quality are the same for the two camcorders in their highest quality mode. Thank you.

RCA emailed within an hour...

Dear Gregg,

The HQ mode quality would be the same for the EZ200 and the EZ205.
They must charge more for the EZ205 because it comes in prettier colors than black and nice trim accents. The only substantive difference I see between the two is that the EZ205 gives you the ability to record in an even more compressed longer playing low quality mode. But with these devices its not worth recording in anything other than highest quality anyway.

Buy the cheaper EZ200, and use the $10 you save to get a bigger 2GB MicroSD card for it, which Buy.com happens to have one on sale now for $10 free shipping.

When my cam is delivered in a few days I'll try to post a follow up. Good luck with yours too. By the way which Small Wonder model did you order?

Ok. Did you like your RCA Small Wonder? I thought it was just okay. I guess I expected better quality. It's a great idea for a small video recorder but I sent mine back. I bought a Canon DVD camcorder. I have a JVC Mini DV but I like that the Canon is really small & records on Mini DVD's that I can just play on my DVD. Oh well-I didn't know if I'd like it til I tried it. It's good to take on the go I was just wanting better quality & zoom.

The RCA Small Wonder is a really basic camcorder at a low
price. If you have experience with a descent or good Mini DV
camcorder and good editing software then you won't like the low quality video from the camera or the software.

For a kid or teen interested in getting into video or to throw
up a quick video on MySpace or Youtube for viewing by
friends it could be fun and inexpensive.
