| Need opinions, please Here are some of my new florals. I love them and think they are beautiful, but DH really does not. I was hoping to get your opinion. I don't care if you like it or don't, as long as you tell me WHY. What makes it good, and what makes it bad. You don't have to be an expert, you just have to have an opinion. I am open for suggestions and critique. Thanks! This is my favorite, but my DH can't stand to look at it - he says it makes him dizzy! ![]() Same flower, different view: ![]() Another lily photo. This one can be centered a little better, so try not to let that bother you too much: ![]() This is another one that DH didn't like the depth of field but I loved how it faded into color at the top: ![]() MORE PHOTOS IN POST 2!!!

| More florals Crazy depth of field.. it is intended to pull your eye toward the center of the flower: ![]() This one can be shifted to exclude the negative space int he background. I haven't decided if I like this photo or not: ![]()

| I think most of them are beautiful also.........I would bet some of them would look incredible in black & white or sepia!!! Otherwise, the focus was great and clean and crisp.

| Really beautiful photographs Amy - I'm assuming you have an SLR camera? I don't think I can do that stuff with my digital point and shoot.

| I can see why your DH says he gets dizzy while looking at photo #1-I kinda got the same feeling and it's because the center of the flower (where the middle things are sprouting out) looks like it's blurry which I know it's not. Those things are kind of fuzzy and when you're as close to them as you are they can look blurry. It's a gorgeous flower nonetheless and an even more gorgeous picture. I like picture #2 as it shows the middle sprouts better, but I don't like it as much as picture #1 as you don't get to see as much color. Not sure about #3; were you trying to show the pattern/color change on the leaf as it goes from center to edge? With that intent the picture is spot-on as you can see all the way to the edge from the center-don't think it necessarily has to be centered on the picture or you may miss out on part of the flower altogether. LOVE LOVE LOVE #4-it's my favorite!! The color is so vibrant and alive.....and I love how it fades towards the top of the photo. Brilliant job!! #5, the "Depth of Field" is really neat-it does exactly what you're intending it to do-show the depths of the flower all the way into the "pit". Almost looks like you can look down into a Wishing Well or something similar. I'd love to have that blown up & hanging in my living room-it's absolutely gorgeous! #6-my least favorite of the bunch and only because there's not alot of color. Like you said, you can get rid of the excess space in the back if needed-the flower is pretty with the purple tips, but not for me. I like a little more vibrant colors. Fantastic job Amy-these pictures look like they were done professionally so I'm very impressed at your skills!! Great job! |

| Thanks! We do have an SLR, but the key is my macro lens. I loooooooooove shooting macro!! In the spring and summer I have no other lens on my camera and I just snap snap snap: my garden, the neighbor's garden, the botanical garden, the garden on the corner of the street by the train station... anywhere there is sunlight and a flower!!

| Thank you, Jooki! That was exactly what I needed! I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your opinion. Do you think that the photos you like, #4 and #5, would look too big as a 20 X 24? I'm putting in my application for an exhibit at the library and I have to include sizes of my work and I can't decide if it's too stinkin' gigantic and will make people fall over! Thanks, darlin'!!!

| You know what I thought about titling that picture? "Gene Simmons Hybrid"! HA HA HA! Well, maybe I'll give it a more generic name... but that was the first thought that zipped through my brain!!!

| I like #2 the best. There is a bit of symmetry between the colors of the pistils/stamens and the spots on the lower petal and it has great balance. The rest just don't do much for me. #1 is too soft. #3 is kind of top heavy. #4-6 lack contrast. Here's an idea on #4 that might be cool though. Duplicate the layer and desaturate the color almost completely then erase over the very sharp flower in the bottom third to let the color through. Cheers Craig
