| san disk is one brand I have used with no trouble, I also have a lexar, the main thing to remember, get enough memory! the guy at my camera store likes to use alot of smaller memory size cards, I don't! I filled a 1 gb, and several smaller ones with one trip to WDW. I am sure there are many opinions on having fewer cards or not. Also be sure to take enough batteries WITH you. or sets of rechargeable and the charger.

| I've not had memory card problems, and I use just about anything on the market. If you stay with any of the brand names, you will do good. Card size is up to you. Some folks preach many smaller cards in case the worst happens, and some folks preach larger cards so you don't lose them smaller cards. That is pretty much gonna depend on what your ecperience has been. As for compatibility, any place that copies cards to disk will be able to handle any card type you may have, so that is not an issue. Before you buy a large card, larger than what you have in it now, check your camera manual and make sure your camera will be able to use it. Some of the "older" new cameras only handle up to 2GB, some may be able to use up to 4GB cards.

| Anyone use the polaroid cards? I just bought 2 two gig SD cards for my son's Nikon D40. He is the camera/photo expert but not really digital wise yet. They were a pretty sweet deal ($17.88 each), but I guess it is only a good deal if they work well!

| There are a lot fewer companies that manufacture memory cards than those that sell them. I wouldn't expect someone like Polaroid to make their own. More likely, Polaroid is slapping their name one someone else's card. CNET has a rundown on memory cards that you may find enlightening or confusing, depending. The major makers of memory now have many different "quality" levels with the same brand name. That choice tends to be more important than which of the brands you buy.

| I have 2 Polaroid SD cards I bought at Wal-Mart last year for $12.99 each. I have taken hundreds of pictures on them, downloaded, reformatted, and they are still working like they did when I bought them. They should do fine for him...

| I saw the 1 gig cards for $12.99 and opted for the 2 gig cards for the little bit more. Glad you are happy with them!

| office depot has a two pack of 2gb cards on sale right now, I 'think' they are san disk. I am not in the market for any at the moment, I am watching for the compact flash cards, that is what the new camera takes and I don't see those on sale as often.

| Here is a link to a site where I buy memory cards sometimes: Kingston Secure Digital Cards Their price on Sandisk Ultra II is not phenomenal, but their price on Kingston is very good, with some great sales now and then. Quote:
I also like Kingston, which is known as one of the best brands or PC memory on the market. I have a number of Kingston cards and never had any trouble with any of them. IMHO, more small cards is a better way to go than fewer large cards. Too many people lose pics by either losing their cards, losing their cameras, having a card go bad on them, or accidentally hitting "Delete all" or "Format." Smaller cards prevent you from having all your eggs in one basket; if a card full of pics is lost, you haven't lost all of your pics. My strategy is to buy cards large enough for about one day worth of pics at WDW; in my case, that means 1gb cards. And whether the card is full or not, I swap it for an empty one at the end of each day, and leave the full ones in my hotel safe. Quote:

| I have always had San disk, but my DH found me a 4G Kingston at Best Buy for about $25. They were having a great sale one week. He is a total computer nerd and says that is really the best one out there. I also like to use mine for videos. It shoots HD video so the 1 GB just wasn't enough. So now I have the 4GB and carry a 1GB for a spare. |

| I also like the ultra II cards for the SD card, bought 2 the last time I caught a sale. ?? Does anyone think there will end up being just one type of card for all camera's at some point? Like the vhs tape vs whatever the other thing was called (looked like an LP record!) ??

I think that SD will eventually weed out most of the other formats in P&S cameras, but I doubt that it will make much progress in SLRs. MiniSD is almost extinct now, but MicroSD will stick around for use in phones and other small devices that dont have room for a full-size SD card. Sony will try to keep Memory Sticks alive long after the other cards have made them moot, simply because Sony makes a lot of money by having their own proprietary format for cameras and computers. XD cards will probably die out eventually because they're too darn small and easily lost. They were developed to save room in smaller cameras, but they're too small for the average person to handle, especially when changing cards in actual shooting conditions. Whichever formats die out will have to be supported by their manufacturers for at least 10 years because of all the devices out there that already use them. | |
