| Tripod or monopod? To save my BF having to stand still with my leaning on his shoulder, I thought a monopod would be a good idea. There's not always something around to rest the tripod on, like standing in the middle of the crowd. Is there an ultra compact monopod that anyone uses? I carry only what I can fit in a very tiny backpack, and I do have a mini tripod, but I want something that I can rest on the ground since I'm not always off to the side of an event, I like to be in the middle of the action. |

| I hope you get an answer to this one as I've been looking for a telescoping monopod that is very compact, too.

| Any 5 section monopod should be small enough to carry in a backpack. If your camera is not too heavy Best Buy has a Sunpack with a ball head for about $20. Also get yourself a roll of double sided velcro and cut a couple 12" sections then velcro your monopod to a fence rail. Cheers Craig

| Unfortunately, my monopod doesn't collapse very small, it's a combination monopod/walking stick. It has 3 legs that fold out the bottom of it to make a stand so it can be self supporting, for light cameras. I sometimes use them with my DSLR and the big lens for additional support... Here's what I have... Trek-Tech TrekPod Monopod/Tripod/Walking Stick Combination with MagMount ![]() Here's the Specs... Maximum HeightTripod mode: 60" (152.5 cm) Monopod mode: 62.5" (158.7 cm) Folded LengthTwo components; approx. 35.5" (90.2 cm) each Load Capacity In tripod mode with MagMount approx. 9 lb (4 kg) maximum Leg Sections3 Leg Lock TypeTwist Male Thread Size1/4"-20 Weight1.9 lb (850 g) It comes with screw-in magnetic couplers, they screw in the bottom of your camera and the cork walking top comes off and the camera attaches there... I like it, but it's not something you can just collapse down and stick in your backpack...

| I do like the looks of the TrekPod. I guess if I just took a monopod on the nights I want to take fireworks or parade shots that size would actually be okay.
