| Memory cards and TSA We bought DD a digital camera for her birthday. She'll be taking it to DL a few days later. We've had ours for about a year and a half and have traveled with it, but not extensively. When we were buying an extra memory card for her, the guy in the store told us to be sure to take it out in airports because the "airport scanners will ruin the card if it's in the camera." But he said they won't be hurt if they're out of hte camera. Huh? Is this true? I know my camera (card enclosed) has been through a TSA scanner. Have I just been lucky?

| He was obviously misinformed Going thru the scanners will not affect memory cards!! They are digital media, not film.

| Thanks! It didn't make much sense to me, but there's way more collective knowledge here on PP'r so thought I'd ask.

| Another well travelled digital camera with memory card inserted here too and again with no problems. Talk about panic reading the first post as many of places I have been to are definitely one offs.

| If memory cards got erased, laptops would too -- and you'd know it by the millions of p*ssed off business travelers. I travel on business with my laptop and camera all the time and have never had anything erased. The problem is certain real film speeds which can be over exposed by the x-ray beams. Digital stuff is just fine. Promise. |
