| DSLR Owners What do you own/use and why? My equipment is Olympus, personal preference. Always have had good luck with them. Of course, everything has it's good points and bad points, and Olympus certainly has theirs. One of the biggest issues with them is the low light focusing issue, basically it's a real pain sometimes. But, other than that, I am happy. I own the Evolt E-500 and E-520. The 500 is an 8MP and the 520 is 10MP. The 520 has built in IS, as well as live view, meaning I can see what I'm shooting using the view screen like a point and shoot. When I bought the 500, I bought the 2 lens kit. Olympus sensors are such that the "multiplication" factor is 2, meaning that whatever the lens size is you multiply it by 2 to get the 35mm equivalent. For you non-DSLR folks, it sets a standard by which to accurately compare lenses. The "standard" kit lenses for the Olympus E series DSLR's is the 14-45 (28-90mm - 35MM equivalent) and 40-150 (80-300mm - 35mm equivalent). Both were bought with the 500 back in Feb., 2006. The glass is good on them, but Olympus has come out with ED glass since then, much better glass. I have added a 70-300mm (140-600mm - 35mm equivalent) primarily because I take a lot of nature picutres, especially wildlife. For my "normal" always in and carry around lens, I bought a 18-180mm (36-360mm - 35mm equivalent). It covers everything I want and works great. being a newer lens, it has the ED glass in it and I it.So, tell us what you got and why!

| I have the Canon Rebel Xti it is 10 mpg and I have the lens that came with it the 18-55 mm and I have the 75-300mm lens. I am still learning about the camera's abilities and haven't moved off of the automatic focus camera does the focusing settings yet. Just too nervous to try it yet. But I love it so far. I have to find a photography course so I can learn the settings off of non automatic focus but that will come in time. I find the battery lasts a pretty long time but do have 2 extras that I keep charged just in case I need them. I'm happy with my Canon

| I love my Sony, it's always produced fantastic results for me, although we've just got a Canon at work and that's impressed me so far. ![]()

| I have a Sony Alpha 100 that came with 2 lenses as a sale from Best Buy. One lens is 18 - 70 and the other is 75 -300. Luke bought it for me, mainly because it as a shake feature and I'm not the stillest person. I am truly loving capturing memories with it.

| We have a Canon Digital Rebel XT (8 MP). Mainly because DH had a Canon before that (Rebel) and he wanted to stay with them! He's got two lenses, 22-55 mm and 100-300 mm. Both Canons.

| Cool thread Bill. OK, here goes. Primary body, Canon 1D Mark II. AKA The Workhorse. Intially got it for street credibility and have since fallen in love with it. Well, a friend also gave me a smokin' hot deal on it too. It's seeing about 90K images per year at the moment. Secondary body, Canon 30D, also serves as the vacation/walkaround. It stays with me most of the time. I was initially looking for a Rebel XT body but found the 30D with a 28-135IS on sale for $900 and snatched it up. Sold the lens for $350 so ended up with a higher end body for $50 less than I was planning on spending for the Rebel. I also added a battery grip. Tertiary body, Canon D30, this is DD's camera that I take when I have a long, remote assignment. Just picked this up used off craigslist for Christmas. The gentleman I bought it from purchased it new in 2002. Some of the accessories were still in the original packaging. The glass I'm using most these days are a Canon 70-200 f4.0L and Tamron 28-75 f2.8. The Canon is tack sharp and focuses uber fast. I love the light capturing and bokeh of the Tamron, which is also quite sharp. I've been playing with a 24-105 f4.0IS that belongs to a friend. It may find it's way permantly into my arsenal. I also have the Tamron 18-25, which is a phenomenal walkaround lens, a Canon 28-90 that I picked up for DD. I also have a small studio lighting kit and a couple on camera flashes. Cheers Craig

| Ok I had to ask DH but we have an Olympus e500 with the 14-45 and 40-150 lenses. He is thinking of upgrading to the e520.

| I'm a Canon man myself, but mostly because one of my best friends is a Canon man from way back, so when I bought my first SLR (a Canon Rebel G), I went with the Canon so he'd be more familiar with it and be able to teach me more. When I initially went digital, I got a bridge camera, a Fuji S602. It's still a great camera and I keep it as a light-weight backup. My DSLR is a Canon Digital Rebel. The original, no bloody X, T, S, or I! (that's a Star Trek paraphrase, 10 points to anyone who recognizes it). I own two Sigma lenses for my Rebel G, and for my Digital Rebel I have the Canon 18-55 kit lens, a Sigma 18-125, and recently bought a beautiful shiny new Canon 55-250IS lens for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas. I also own two Canon speedlight flash units, a 220EX and a 420EX, a cable release and battery extender for the Rebel G, and an IR remote release for the Digital Rebel (the battery grip was too darn expensive and it's virtually impossible to find now). I'm too deep into Canon to switch, but I have nothing against Nikon, Sony, or Olympus. |

| We have a Canon Rebel XT. We went with it because we already had a Rebel SLR and wanted to be able to use the lenses with our DSLR. We've been very happy with it. We have 3 lenses, the 18-55, 35-80, and an 80-200 (all Canon). We want to get the 75-300 lens (would also love to get some IS lenses). And a doubler. We also have another SLR (Minolta) and point and shoot Kodak digital.

| I have a couple of Nikon D3s and usually put my Nikon 17-35 2.8 lens on one body and my Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR lens on the other. I also have a 35-70 f2.8, a 300 f2.8 and a 400 f2.8 that I use quite a bit. For back-ups I have two Nikon D2x bodies. I have used Nikons since the early 70's as a student and have stayed with them. Nikon took care of the one draw-back the D2x's had, lots of noise at ISOs higher than 1600. With the D3s I shoot at ISOs of 3200 and 6400 all of the time. Very, very little noise at 6400 and acceptable noise at 12,000. |

| We are a Sony family here. I'm glad to see that there are other Sony owners in this thread. It seems that every workshop we attend, Canon & Nikon owners are the majority. My primary camera is the Sony A100. I use it for primarily night photography and daytime landscape/wildlife photography. It's a bit heavy for casual use, so I probably won't bring it out during the day at WDW when we intend to go on any rides or anything. For walkabouts, we use the Sony H3 and Sony H10. They do an excellent job with low light and macro shots.

Do you think the 24-105 would replace the Tamron you have? Having that extra f stop would be nice, but 24-105 with IS would work for about 80% of all my shots. A co-worker of mine has the Sigma 50-500 (the "Bigma") and she let me borrow it for an airshow two weeks back. It was great for a bright-light setting like that, but it's f5.6-6.3 which means the 20D's autofocus is pretty well useless beyond 200mm. I'd had my eye on one, but after using it I don't think I'd blow my limited budget on one. | |

| I don't think the 24-105 would completely replace, nor would I get rid of, the 18-200. I'd guess the 24-105 would be my walkaround about 80% of the time. I haven't had the opportunity to play with a Bigma yet, but I hear great reviews across the board for it. I'd like to do some more wildlife and maybe field sports. That reach would sure come in handy! Cheers Craig

| Got the Canon 40D kit (28-135IS) last year when Amazon had a deal. It's more camera than I'm used to but I'm happily learning/playing with all the functions. I've been a Canon girl for a while so familiarity with controls/icons, etc. became the deciding factor.
