Question fix vs new canon s2 is new in 06

OK, today I grabbed my camera to take a quick shot of one of the kids doing something cute. When I turned it on, I heard this grinding sound when the lens extended. The camera would not zoom, it would focus. I saw a small orange 'code' in the lower edge of the screen E18, is the camera worth fixing or should I just cry, get over it and start looking for a replacement? I really love the zoom feature of this camera, the size and feel in my hands, and it uses SD cards which I have a ton of......
I already had it in the shop when it was less than a year old (under warranty) for a similar problem. I have always kept it in the case, and taken great care of it.

Help....

I have the A-640 and this happened to me while at WDW. I just went ahead and bought another point and shoot for the rest of the trip, but I like the A640 and went ahead and sent it back to Canon to be fixed. The removable ring around the lens on mine was dented, therefore, Canon determined that the problem was due to camera being banged or dropped and I had to pay for it. The dinged ring was from it being carried inside a fanny pack along with a gun, badge and handcuffs... Oops...

Anyway, it cost me about $100US and the camera works like new again. That is much cheaper than a new camera, and I haven't had any further problems with it...

Thanks for the encouragement.....I really hope it can be fixed. I will look at the front of the lens very closely today to see if there are any problems showing with the lens extended like the link described. I really want this camera to keep on making trips with me!
