Using digital camcorder for still pics?

I was looking at some digital camcorders this evening and noticed that they all function as point and shoot cameras also. Has anyone here purchased a camcorder with the thought that you will also be using it take the majority of still shots, say at the parks, so that you only have to carry one camera? This is probably a very novice type question, but my current (and hopefully soon to be gone) camcorder is the old tape type and these cameras I was looking at are just so darn cute!! Thanks for any feedback.

My camcorder's a couple of years old, and in camera mode it takes decent pictures. But in movie mode, it takes pretty much cell phone quality pictures.

A friend of mine has a newer one, though, that does great pictures in camera mode and decent ones in movie mode.

I have a digital camcorder (mini DV tapes) that takes okay still pics to the SD card.

I have a point and shoot digital camera that takes excellent still photos and HD quality video.

I prefer the point and shoot camera. It is lighter, smaller, easier to use, and produces the same quality product on video and exceptional photos...
