Wearing Red in May-SIL's DFTW

I'm getting excited about our upcoming WDW trip in May, so I couldn't resist started a journal of sorts. As some of you know, my SIL and her fiance are planning a DisneyFairyTale Wedding. I'm her Matron of Honor, so I get the inside scoop on the planning. I figured I'd write about the planning of her wedding since I've been involved and of course, share some photos of their big day afterwards.

The Big Day: They are getting married on May 14th at Sea Breeze Pointe near the Boardwalk in the afternoon. ºoº They've got their officiant booked and have booked an outside photography that we've read raves about on another board. Beyond that, planning is still in the works.

Who's Who:
Bride, Amber (never been to WDW)
Groom, Dave (been a few times for band visits)
Bride's mom Bernie & stepdad Kim <my inlaws>: (literally ran around the world about 9 years ago)
Groom's parents: (never been to Disney)
Groom's brother <best man>: (never been to Disney)
And last but not least, me and Jason <Amber's Brother>

*There are more family members who have chosen not to travel for the wedding that Amber would have loved to be there, but for various reasons will not.

Dinner: The 9 of us will be dining at Boma's in the evening for their celebratory meal. Since they are planning an escape wedding, things are on the small scale.

Other details: Well, for now there are none. But as things continue to shape up, I'll share.

We have a planning session tomorrow evening, so I'm crossing my fingers some more decisions are made. They are, admitted by themselves, not "planners." They need to have their planning packet back to their planner within the month, so things like music, cake, flowers, etc need to be decided upon. She's also looking to have CarolynAllen's steam her gown (and mine) the day of, and possibly have a stylist come to the room for hairdo's.

Coming up: the dress

The Dress(es)

We decided to drive over to David's Bridal this past May and just take a look at wedding gowns. Amber wasn't sure exactly what she was looking for (possibly halter), but knew what she didn't want: no strapless and no red for anything (thinks she looks awful in red). She loves purple so she was hoping to find one of their dresses that you can either get in color or add the colored sash to it.

We wade through the dresses as the consultant finds some for her based on what Amber told her. She tried on about 7 dresses total. The 5th one was "it." Ladies, you know what I'm talking about. The dress that the smile cannot be wiped off the bride's face. At this point, she's thinking the accent color, which is red in the store, can come in lilac. As the consultant goes to check on colors, my MIL and I are smirking at each other thinking that it doesn't come in lilac and that Amber looks wonderful in the red. We get, "What are you two whispering about over there?" from the lovely bride in her white & red dress. "Nothing" is our reply.

The consultant comes back and shares that the dress comes in the white, black, or apple red. No lilac. Amber pouts a bit, which was a sign for us. She tried two more dresses and and is comparing them to the red dress, stating "if only it came in lilac. I really like that one." I suggest she try it on again. She then spent 45 minutes in the dress. Yep, we have a winner! She ends up selecting her tiara, veil, jewelry, and shoes! Yes, all of it! And the dress fit her to a T, she only needs a hem and bustle. How awesome is that?!

While MIL and I are chuckling to ourselves that Amber fell in love with something she protested about before coming to the store, the consultant asks Amber what she was thinking of for her attendants dresses. Um, that would be me. And I was not prepared to try on dresses. But, into a room I went with a dress the consultant picked out. I came out with a smile on my face, but thinking to myself "Oh my, if she makes me wear this dress she will soooo owe me." The middle section of the dress was not flattering at all. Now, I know I'm a plunky (plump & chunky) gal, but this dress emphasized my belly in a way that neither of my pregnancies never did. Thankfully my MIL said she didn't really care for it either, that it didn't really do anything for me. Back into the little tiny room I went where I stripped off that dress as fast as I could. I went browsing through the bridesmaid gowns and found one that I kinda liked. Amber liked it, and back into that tiny room I went. (How on earth does a bride, the consultant, and a fluffy dress fit in these?). I walked out and voila, I now had a dress. Best part, it was discountinued and it was $100 off the original price. And it fit's pretty decent, I will need some alterations but it's doable. We go for our alterations starting mid-Feb.

I'm attaching photos of our dresses. Don't worry, it's totally okay that I post her dress. There is no secret to it as she's been showing the entire family for months. Pardon my expression as I wasn't expecting that my photo was being taken at the moment.

Up next: Does more planning occur, or will tantrums ensue?

#1. I am loving this report because I have always wanted a Disney wedding and plan on doing a vow renewal in 3 1/2 years.
#2 The bridal dress is fabulous! The red pops in a way lilac never could. Red says 'TADA' and celebrate!
#3. Please continue. I am so hooked.

Amber's wedding dress is similar one I looked at for my wedding a few years ago and also wanted the detail in purple.
