Keeping Busy On The Plane

I have a 2 yr old son who is just starting his terrible two's! He is loud and has started throwing tantrums. We are working on it, but he still has the occassional fit. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep him busy on the plane? We will bring the portable dvd player and a nintendo ds, that is my daughters - for him to use.

If anyone has an idea for a nice quiet plane activity, without lots of small pieces, that would be wonderful.

Thanks!
Nicole

Coloring books and sticker books are great for keeping little kids busy on plane trips. The more Disney, the better! Just be sure to pack big, fat crayons in bright colors. Not only will they be more fun to color with for your son, they will be easier to see if they get dropped. Also, supervision is a MUST with sticker books. otherwise, there may be stickers in your hair, on the floor, on the food cart-- anywhere BUT the actual sticker book!
also, if he starts to get really antsy, take him for a lap around the plane cabin. It really helps.

Have a magical vacation!

A new DVD that he hasn't seen may help. Picture books. His favorite snacks and favorite blanket or stuffed animal.

Crayola make a colouring book with these textas that are invisible until they are used on the special paper from the book. they have one in a Pixar Cars design - my 2yr old loves it. I have also had success with my older kids in taking the colouring books with the water colour paints attatched down the side of the book. I only gave them a wet baby wipe and it was enough to make the paint work. We have done the stickers, DVD and magnadoodle things but nothing beats them sleeping! I am taking a lap tray with side zippered compartments for crayons / pencils - I know my DS adores this thing because it has Pooh bear on it - LOL! (For our Oct. trip I will be packing Phernergan(?) for the later part of our 13hr plane flight) Good luck!

I too have this same issue. I will be travelling with my 2yo daughter & 6yo son. We have ipods so I am hoping to purchase someTV shows & movies for the flight for them. Also, I was thinking about colorforms - they are BACK or those holiday window cling-ons. I read somewhere that kids love to stick them on & off the airplane windows. This should keep my daughter busy. I will also bring LOTS of snacks. I saw @ Walmart they have a crayon wheel that has many different colors on it so I am thinking about getting one of these for my daughter to color with; this way I won't have to always worry about picking a bunch of crayons up off the floor. I am definately going to bring our magnadoodle & books. Stickers are a must too! Pez dispensers are nice because they occupy her with putting all the candy in & out. Hope this helps u! Good luck with the flight!

A small favorite blanket/stuffed animal are good to bring. My kids also love sticker books (I get a couple of new Disney ones at Barnes and Noble before our trip), Color Wonder sets (the markers only work on the special paper/books they come with), magnadoodle or etcha-sketch, and books to read/look at. Don't forget something to help his ears during take off like lollipops or gummy fruit snacks.

Ya'll are going to think I'm nuts, but we would bring those tiny jars of playdough that you can give out as party favors. only one or two... but dd would mash and roll that stuff for the longest time, we'd add a few small plastic animals and she'd make them walk through and leave tracks... she didn't shred or throw it all over the place, so for her, it was a great activity. Stickers-- ended up all over the place, but kept her happy happy!. Snacks... small ones that require some work to get out of the cup, but not so much that it was frustrating. She's 5.5 now, and is receiving a DS from my dad today for a car trip this weekend.

Have a great trip!!

Buying a couple of new DVDs gets my vote. Has always worked with our 2 yr old. Good luck.

This is my newest thing. They are called WikiSticks they are basically string covered w/ some kind of wax stuff. But they bend and stick to stuff but they aren't "sticky" know what I mean? Here is the link Wikki Stix It would be something completely new they haven't played w/ before, so it might be a great attention getter.

Hi,

You might want to bring his favorite movie as well. We actually had to stop at K-mart on our way down to Florida when DS was 2 because we forgot his favorite Elmo movie. It was absolutely pathetic to hear him cry for Elmo for 2 hours.

Good luck,
Nalagh
