| 12-year-olds and pin trading We're taking my 12-year-old niece in August and I was wondering if pre-teens are into pin trading. Any thoughts? ![]()

| My just turned 12 yr old son is VERY into pin trading, but not as much as he is into character autographs! It depends on the kids..... My 8 and 10 yr old are even more into pin trading than him , but a little less on the autographs; although they do like them. I buy my kids each a few pins on ebay before the trip and they trade those and also buy 1 or 2 while on the trip with their own $$.

| It definitely depends on the person. If your niece is shy, I would recommend her trading with cast members. They are gentle, patient, and won't refuse a trade. You can get some great special edition cast member pins this way. Have a magical vacation!

| DD is 9 and she LOVES pin trading, though she only trades with cast members. For her it's about the hunt -- she wants to find Tinkerbells, or Tiki Birds, or whatever she's into that particular day. I buy pin lots on ebay so she has plenty of traders. Then we confine our store purchases to special pins -- the pin of the year, a special meal or the resort we stay at -- that she wasn't able to trade for. If your question is really whether 12 is too old or too young, I'd say no on both counts. I think it's a great age. Pins are "cooler" than autographs if that's an important issue. A 12 year old has the social skills to initiate the trade, and probably enough Disney knowledge to have a favorite character, park or some way to define a trading theme. What my DD is just now getting that I (as the one who funds this!) think is important is the willingness to part with pins, too, not just hoard.
