| Keeping a 15 month old hydrated and from over heating? So we will be in WDW mid August. I have been to WDW before with my son(Jan 09) and we have been w/o him in August. I know its going to be HOT. How do I keep my little guy hydrated? Am I over thinking this will he drink when he is thirsty? I know how a sure fire way to keep him hydrated....give him as much juice as he wants but that has horrible effects on his stomach and would be a huge problem so I give him a little juice mixed with water. He will drink it but will he drink it fast enough? Any tips? He will be doing little to no walking should I buy a clip fan for his stroller to keep him cool. Will he be fine just going in and out of the air conditioned rides? Sorry to ramble I just get nervous as it has been very mild in CT. No major heat waves and lately very little humidity |

| We live in Memphis, and let me tell you when it comes to heat and humidity, we're experts, lol. I recommend flexibility in your day. If you are touring and you notice your DS is starting to wilt, take a break indoors somewhere, or go back to the resort and pool for a bit. I will also say that the clip-on fan is awesome. We did that for DD when we brought her to WDW at 7 months over Labor Day weekend. I think your DS should probably drink just fine, but if you think he's not drinking as much as he should, add a little juice to his water, like you suggested. In reality you probably are overthinking it a bit, but... that's a good thing in this kind of case. I do it, too! Better to be overprepared than to not worry about it at all and end up with a dehydrated or overheated toddler, I say! Good luck and enjoy your trip! You'll have a great time!

| We went to Disney when our son was 15 months and it was May and it was HOT! We had a sunshade for the stroller, got misting fans, and let him drink a LOT of water! He also enjoyed playing in the kiddie pools. We didn't have any problems. ![]()

| Thank you Thank you... I will pick up a misting fan or 2 when we are there. My DS isn't thrilled with the water. We have gone to the pool and the beach and water just touching his toes scares the pants off of him. I don't get it because he LOVES bath time? Maybe with the heat he will change his tune |

| I would make sure you have a sun shade that will cover the stroller. Buy a misting fan and then take tons of "cooling" breaks. As for getting your DS to drink what I do for DD is fill a cup 75% with water and then the rest with juice. Her ped. doctor said we should be watering down her juice anyway and this way she gets the flavor with more water than juice. Popcicles are another option and just wet down towels. With the heat down here we can last about 30 minutes outside at 8:15 a.m. before we have to go inside. That was just yesterday! ![]()

| DD was 2 when we first went and she refused to drink juice -- she was a milk-only girl. So we were concerened with spoilage and getting liquids into her. We gave her a cup of water and it turned out she would drink if she was thirsty. It was a non-issue.

| our first trip our youngest was 11 months old. another thing that can help keep them cooler (I won't say cool, but cooler) is if your stroller seat is dark in color take a white towel from the room and drape it over the seat and then sit your child in it. it did help to reflect the sun a bit and the seat didn't get so hot (our stroller was navy blue).

| lots of great advice, I dont think I saw it mentioned but I would suggest a stroller fan. We use it for our kids on hot summer days when on trips, it's great Kel-Gar Inc. Stroller Gear Products - Stroller Fan

| The one thing I would mention is that you should wait for him to get thirsty to drink By the time the human body actually feels thirsty, the hydration is already low. I would fill his bottle/sippy cup with ice water and encourage him to take sips every 15-20 minutes or so. If he sees the rest of you doing it that may help, too. Take lots of breaks in a shady area or back at the resort pool. Maybe try taking him to the little splash areas for the tiny ones little in Pooh's Playful Spot and Donald's Boat - he may enjoy the milder water play in there.
